Employment Opportunity

The Information Division is responsible for supporting the department's core ICT infrastructure and services. The division has a diverse range of responsibilities, including cloud services, network support, ICT project management, business system development and information governance.

The Cloud Engineer will work as part of the Cloud Platforms team within Core Services to support the division achieve the outcomes of a migration to cloud project and assist with business as usual (BAU) activities where required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assisting with all aspects of Cloud Platforms including engineering support of current Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments.
• Supporting a project for on-premises migration to a target cloud provider, using supplied vendor tooling.
• Working in a structured environment with guidance from a senior cloud engineer.

Required Skills:

• Understanding of Azure services such as virtual machines, storage, networking and identity.
• Understanding of the Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF).
• Level 3 Support for cloud environments.
• Level 3 Windows Server Administration, for example interpreting logs and documentation to find root causes.
• Incident Management including queue management.
• Logging, representing and managing change requests for the team.
• Issues register management for projects. Tracking the lifecycle of issues raised.
• Writing technical documentation including knowledge base (KB) articles and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Cloud Platform Administrator who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges and supporting modern cloud environments. As a member of the Core Services section, you will assist in the administration, maintenance, and optimisation of multi-cloud platforms, ensuring reliability, security, and operational excellence across Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments.

Desired experience:

• Experience working with Microsoft Azure.
• AWS and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience is regarded but not necessary.
• Experience in working in regulated environments or following processes for system administration.
• Experience in writing documentation, such as standard operating procedures, change requests, post incident reviews, and contributing to system artefact upkeep.
• Understanding of networking concepts, including IP addressing, subnetting, routing, firewalls, DNS, and load balancing.
• Knowledge of backup technologies and disaster recovery principles.
• Scripting experience using PowerShell or similar automation tools.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies such as Bicep or Terraform.
• Vendor certifications are regarded but not required for this role.

To be eligible for employment at the Attorney-General’s Department applicants must be Australian citizens.  

Applicants offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a police record check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a specified clearance level. The successful applicant must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. 

Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.

A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created from this process, and will be active for 18 months after the date of this gazettal.
