About the role

We are seeking a skilled Band Saw Operator to join our team at Scott Metals in Woolloongabba, QLD. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in our metal processing operations. As a Band Saw Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining band saw cutting equipment to process metal materials to precise specifications. This position is essential to our production operations and directly impacts the quality and efficiency of our output.

Key responsibilities

• Operate band saw equipment safely and efficiently, following all relevant safety protocols and procedures

• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and work specifications to ensure accurate cutting of metal materials

• Set up and adjust band saw equipment, including blade tension, speed settings and cutting guides

• Monitor cutting operations to maintain consistent quality and precision, ensuring materials meet specified dimensions and tolerances

• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of band saw equipment to ensure optimal performance

• Inspect finished cuts for quality and report any defects or equipment issues to supervisors

• Handle and position metal materials safely, using appropriate lifting techniques and equipment where necessary

• Maintain accurate records of production activities and material usage

• Collaborate with team members to meet production targets and deadlines

• Comply with all workplace health and safety requirements and company policies

What we're looking for

• Proven experience operating band saw equipment in a manufacturing or metal processing environment

• Demonstrated ability to read technical drawings and understand specifications

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate, consistent results

• Proficiency in performing routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting minor issues

• Excellent safety awareness and a commitment to maintaining workplace safety standards

• Physical capability to handle metal materials, including lifting and positioning heavy items

• Strong organisational and time management skills

• The ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Current Construction Induction Training (White Card) or willingness to obtain one

• Relevant trade qualifications or certification in metal fabrication or machine operation (preferred but not essential)

• Forklift Licence
