 Therapeutic Supervisor – Individual Placement Arrangements (IPA) | Out of Home Care (OOHC)

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly motivated Therapeutic Supervisor to join our growing team. This role is responsible for providing ongoing supervision, mentoring, and practice guidance to Therapeutic Care Workers (TCWs) who support children and young people residing within Individual Placement Arrangements (IPA).

The Therapeutic Supervisor will play a critical role in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment for children and young people who have experienced trauma, adversity, and complex life experiences. Through regular house visits, reflective supervision, and collaborative practice, the successful candidate will empower TCWs to deliver high quality, individualised care that promotes healing, stability, development, and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

•⁠ ⁠Provide regular formal and informal supervision, coaching, and reflective practice sessions to Therapeutic Care Workers.

•⁠ ⁠Conduct routine and responsive visits to IPA homes to monitor the quality of care, provide direct staff support, and ensure therapeutic practices are embedded in daily routines.

•⁠ ⁠Build positive working relationships with TCWs and provide real-time guidance, debriefing, and problem-solving support following incidents or challenging situations.

•⁠ ⁠Ensure staff practice aligns with individual care plans, behaviour support strategies, risk management plans, cultural support plans, and the goals of each child or young person.

•⁠ ⁠Promote trauma-informed, strengths-based, and child-centred approaches across all placements.

•⁠ ⁠Review incidents and identify learning opportunities to continuously improve the quality of support provided.

•⁠ ⁠Support the emotional wellbeing, resilience, and professional development of frontline workers.

•⁠ ⁠Work collaboratively with internal departments, case managers, government agencies, families, and other stakeholders to ensure holistic support for children and young people.

•⁠ ⁠Ensure all practices align with child-safe principles, organisational policies, and relevant OOHC legislative and quality requirements.

•⁠ ⁠Assist with onboarding, mentoring, and ongoing development of new Therapeutic Care Workers.

•⁠ ⁠Identify practice concerns and escalate risks or safeguarding matters appropriately.

About You

You are an empathetic leader with extensive experience supporting children and young people with complex trauma and the ability to guide teams through a therapeutic lens. You understand the importance of reflective practice, consistency, boundaries, and relationship based care.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

•⁠ ⁠A relevant qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Community Services, Youth Work, or a related discipline.

•⁠ ⁠Demonstrated experience working within the Out of Home Care sector, particularly supporting children and young people with complex needs.

•⁠ ⁠Previous experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring frontline staff.

•⁠ ⁠Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, therapeutic interventions, attachment, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour support.

•⁠ ⁠Knowledge of child protection legislation, mandatory reporting requirements, and child-safe practices.

•⁠ ⁠Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to complete high-quality documentation.

•⁠ ⁠Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple placements and competing priorities.

•⁠ ⁠A current Driver Licence and willingness to travel regularly between IPA homes.

•⁠ ⁠A current Working With Children Check and all relevant probity clearances.
