Business Manager/Accountant

About the role

This is an opportunity to own the finance and payroll function of a leading Australian Medical Research Institute with the autonomy of running the numbers end to end, as the sole person. IBAS has a small team of office staff, providing support to its researchers and their research team. Austin Health provides IBAS with HR, IT and facility support. The Business Manager is required to liaise with Austin Health staff on a regular basis.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct the full end-to-end accounting function, including Accounts receivable, Accounts payable, Invoicing, Reimbursing expenses for employees and public participants

• Process a small payroll and associated compliance reporting

• Support the CEO in managing the human resources function including recruitment, contract variations, terminations and time card approvals

• Keep track of all research project financial transactions and milestones

• Perform monthly reconciliations

• Complete journal entries for the IBAS accounting system (RECKON)

• Liaise with and advise researchers and clinical trial coordinators regarding their project finance and milestones

• Reconcile bank accounts

• Maintain fixed asset register

• Manage client billings, reconciliations, production and distribution of financial reports and other financial functions

About you

• An Australian certified accountant, or a member of the CPA, IPA or Charter Accountant

• Minimum 5 years' experience in bookkeeping/Accounting

• Demonstrated effective time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to balance competing workloads and deliver within deadlines

• Competency in the full Microsoft Office suite and advanced skills in accounting & payroll systems, combined with ability to learn and utilise new software packages

• Demonstrated effective communication and negotiation skills

• Experienced in RECON accounting system an advantage

• Police check clearance
