Storeman/ Forklift operator

About the role

You will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of structural steel throughout the yard and workshop, as well as receiving incoming materials, preparing outgoing materials and maintaining accurate records using our inventory and traceability software.

Key responsibilities

• Operating forklifts to safely load, unload and move structural steel products

• Safely handling long, heavy and oversized steel sections

• Managing goods inwards, including receiving deliveries, checking quantities and inspecting materials for damage

• Verifying incoming steel against delivery dockets, purchase orders and material traceability requirements

• Correctly identifying and recording steel sizes, grades, heat numbers and material identification where required

• Maintaining accurate material traceability from receipt through to production and dispatch

• Using company software/systems to record stock movements, material locations, heat numbers and job allocations

• Managing goods outwards, including picking, checking and preparing structural steel for customer deliveries and site dispatch

• Loading and securing structural steel safely onto trucks

• Storing materials in designated locations and maintaining an organised steel yard

About you

• Previous experience in structural steel, steel fabrication or a similar heavy industrial environment

• A current Forklift Licence (LF)

• Experience operating forklifts around long, heavy and awkward loads

• Experience with goods receiving and dispatch

• An understanding of stock control and material traceability

• Strong attention to detail when recording material information

• Confidence using computer systems and inventory software to record stock and material movements

• An understanding of structural steel products, sizes and grades

• Ability to read job sheets, delivery dockets, steel lists or basic workshop documentation

• Good communication and teamwork skills
