About The Role
Secure the technology that keeps Tasmania moving
At TasNetworks, cyber security is about more than protecting systems — it’s about protecting the technology that enables the safe, reliable and resilient delivery of electricity across Tasmania. We’re looking for an experienced Cyber Security Operational Technology Specialist to provide specialist leadership across our Operational Technology (OT), Industrial Control Systems (ICS), SCADA and converged IT/OT environments.
This is a senior specialist role for someone with extensive cyber security experience in complex OT and industrial environments. You’ll bring strong technical expertise, architectural judgement and the confidence to influence decisions across engineering, operations, technology and cyber security.
You’ll own and evolve the OT cyber security architecture, strategy and roadmap, establishing the standards, principles and reference patterns that shape how security is designed across our operational environments. You’ll embed security by design across the technology lifecycle, strengthening cyber resilience while balancing security requirements with the realities of highly available operational environments.
You’ll provide strategic, tactical and operational cyber security advice to Operational Technology, Strategic Asset Design, Digital Technology and Cyber Security teams. You’ll establish target-state architectures, govern security standards and design patterns, and help transition new cyber security technologies, processes and standards into business-as-usual operations.
You’ll also identify and prioritise opportunities to protect the systems and automation supporting Tasmania’s energy network, while staying ahead of emerging threats, technologies, regulatory requirements and OT security practices across the electricity sector.
About You
This role requires significant depth and breadth of cyber security experience, particularly across OT and ICS environments. You’ll have demonstrated experience designing, assessing or governing secure industrial environments and be comfortable working across SCADA, PLCs, DCS, industrial protocols and IT/OT convergence.
You’ll understand how cyber security architecture, governance and controls operate within complex risk environments, with practical experience applying frameworks such as IEC 62443, NIST, ISO 27001, PSPF and AESCSF. Experience supporting critical infrastructure, utilities or other highly available operational environments will be highly valued.
You’ll also be a strong influencer who can translate complex cyber security requirements into practical advice for both technical and operational audiences. You’ll build trusted relationships, challenge assumptions and provide clear security direction across competing priorities.
We’re Looking For
Extensive professional experience in cyber security, with a strong focus on OT/ICS security architecture.Demonstrated experience securing industrial networks and environments, including SCADA, PLCs, DCS, industrial protocols and IT/OT convergence.Strong knowledge of AESCSF, NIST CSF, CIS Critical Security Controls and ACSC Essential Eight.Experience with cyber security governance, solution architecture and security-by-design principles.Knowledge of Australian critical infrastructure legislation and obligations.A degree in Cyber Security, IT, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.Certifications such as CISSP, SABSA, TOGAF or GIAC GICSP would be advantageous.
You’ll be commercially astute, results-driven and highly organised, with the ability to coordinate complex priorities and identify opportunities to improve how security and projects are delivered. You’ll have a strategic mindset, be willing to challenge the status quo and bring a practical, innovative approach to solving difficult problems.
Relevant utility or industry experience is highly desirable, alongside the ability to demonstrate TasNetworks’ Core Capabilities and perform the inherent requirements of the role.
