About Us
This is a hands-on and rewarding role working directly with children and families within the Rockhampton Children and Family Centre. The successful applicant will be part of a supportive multidisciplinary team focused on creating welcoming, culturally safe and engaging opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families.
About the Role
The role involves supporting the delivery of playgroups, early childhood programs, community activities and events, while building positive relationships with children, parents, carers and local services. You will help create fun, inclusive and developmentally appropriate learning environments that encourage children to learn through play and support parents and carers to be actively involved in their child’s learning and development. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children and families, is enthusiastic, reliable, willing to learn and comfortable being actively involved in the day-to-day delivery of programs. This includes preparing activities and play spaces, engaging with families, supporting community events and outreach activities, and working collaboratively with the broader Children and Family Centre team. Previous experience in early childhood or community services would be highly regarded; however, we also welcome applicants who have a genuine interest in working with children and families and are willing to undertake the required training and further develop their skills within the role.
Key Selection Criteria:
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
• A genuine interest in working with children from birth to 8 years and their families, with a commitment to supporting positive learning, development and wellbeing outcomes.
• An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, early childhood development, play-based learning and developmentally appropriate practices.
• The ability to build positive, respectful and culturally safe relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities.
• The ability to work collaboratively and contribute positively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently and respectfully with children, parents, carers, community members and service providers.
• A proactive, flexible and reliable approach, with a willingness to contribute to all aspects of program delivery, including setting up and packing down activities and supporting community events and outreach activities.
• Good organisational and time-management skills, including the ability to maintain accurate records and complete required administration.
• Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office programs, and a willingness to learn organisational systems.
• A willingness to undertake and complete a Certificate III in Children’s Services or Diploma in Community Services (Children’s Services), where required.
• A commitment to working in a way that reflects Bidgerdii Community Health Service's values and supports improved outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
Practical Requirements:
• Immunisation requirements – It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A and Pertussis (whooping cough) during their employment. • Current CPR and First Aid Certificate.
• Current Blue Card (Working with Children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card.
• Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) – essential.
• Satisfactory Police Criminal History Check.
• Based in Rockhampton
• Travel as required for service delivery and professional development.
• Willingness to attend occasional community events outside standard business hours
