About the opportunity 

We have an exciting Permanent, Full-Time opportunity for an experienced electrical industry professional to join Energy Safe Victoria's Electrical Installation Safety team. In this role, you'll use your technical expertise to help ensure electrical installations across Victoria are safe, compliant and fit for purpose, while contributing to safer outcomes for Victorian communities.

Reporting to the Electrical Installation Compliance Manager, you'll undertake inspections, audits and investigations, assess electrical installations against legislative and technical requirements, and respond to incidents where safety outcomes are at risk. Working closely with industry, government and community stakeholders, you'll promote compliance, influence best practice and help strengthen electrical safety across the state.

What you'll contribute 

As a Compliance Officer (Electrical Installation), you'll play a key role in protecting Victorian communities by helping ensure electrical installation work is safe, compliant and meets the highest industry standards. In this position you will:

• Lead and assist in inspections, audits and technical assessments of electrical installations across a diverse range of environments, identifying risks and driving improved safety outcomes.
• Investigate incidents, complaints and potential breaches of legislation, using your technical expertise to assess complex issues and determine appropriate regulatory responses.
• Apply your professional judgement as an authorised Enforcement Officer to support fair, evidence-based compliance and enforcement activities.
• Engage with electricians, contractors, industry representatives, government agencies and community stakeholders to promote best practice and improve safety awareness.
• Provide trusted technical advice and practical guidance on electrical safety legislation, regulations, standards and compliance obligations.
• Contribute to investigations, regulatory programs and industry initiatives that strengthen compliance and help shape safer outcomes across Victoria.
• Prepare high-quality reports, recommendations and evidence to support regulatory decision-making and enforcement action where required.
• Represent Energy Safe Victoria at industry forums, trade events and stakeholder meetings, helping build strong relationships and drive continuous improvement in the sector.
• Availability duties form part of this role. You will be trained and mentored to represent Electrical Installation Safety in responding to after-hours incidents, enquiries, and regulatory matters, in accordance with the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA).
• Other relevant duties as required.

To be successful, you'll have

We're looking for a safety-focused electrical professional who combines strong technical expertise with sound judgement, stakeholder engagement skills and a genuine commitment to community safety. You'll bring:

• A current Victorian Electrician's Licence (or equivalent) and broad experience across electrical installations and the electrical industry.
• Strong technical knowledge of electrical installation practices and the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice.
• Experience undertaking inspections, audits, investigations or compliance activities in complex operating environments.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk, investigate issues, identify root causes and make sound decisions.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to influence, educate and build credibility with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Experience preparing clear technical reports, providing expert advice and presenting evidence-based findings and recommendations.
• Resilience, professionalism and the ability to manage sensitive situations, including responding to serious incidents when required.
• The ability to work autonomously in the field while also contributing positively to a collaborative and high-performing team.
• A Victorian Electrical Inspector's Licence, or willingness to obtain one is highly regarded.
