About the role

Newcastle Formwork Services is seeking an experienced Leading Hand Formwork Carpenter to lead a small crew across commercial formwork projects in Newcastle and the Hunter.

This is a hands-on position. You will work alongside the crew while taking responsibility for set-out, daily planning, productivity, quality and coordination of the formwork scope.

The successful applicant must be capable of taking ownership of the work and keeping a small crew organised and productive without requiring constant supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and work alongside a small formwork crew

• Read and interpret structural and architectural drawings

• Complete accurate set-out and dimensional checks

• Plan daily activities and allocate work to the crew

• Coordinate labour, materials, plant and equipment

• Monitor productivity and maintain the construction programme

• Maintain high standards of workmanship and safety

• Identify and resolve issues before they affect progress

• Coordinate professionally with site management and other trades

Experience required

Applicants must have strong experience in conventional commercial formwork, including:

• Suspended decks and balconies

• Concrete walls

• Stairs and landings

• Edge forms, rebates and penetrations

• Formwork systems, propping and stripping

• Reading drawings and completing set-out

Requirements

• Certificate III in Carpentry or equivalent trade qualification

• Proven formwork leading-hand experience

• Construction White Card

• Current driver’s licence and reliable transport

• Strong communication and organisational skills

• Ability to lead by example and remain productive on the tools

• Reliable, safety-conscious and committed to quality work
