Job Description

We are seeking a Principal Civil Designer with 10+ years’ experience to join our WA design team. The primary purpose of this position is to provide high level technical support and direction in relation to design services for engineering projects including civil, structural, resources, geotechnical and other specialisations of engineering. For the right candidate, there is an opportunity to step into a Discipline Lead position, responsible for the Western Australian design team and will contribute to projects including local government and private infrastructure sectors.

You will be responsible for

Design of multi-disciplinary complex civil projects, ensuring design drawings for engineering project work comply with statutory and regulatory requirements and company policies and practicesProviding high level technical support for all design drawings for engineering project workDirecting preparation of preliminary and detailed designs for engineering projects in line with parameters set out in project scope of worksPreparation of construction documentation and specifications for design worksPreparing schedules and allocating resources to enable design drawings for engineering projects to be completed on time and within budgetEnsuring compliance with specifications, design standards and Australian Codes to enhance quality designPromoting a culture of technical excellence through mentoring and training less experienced designersSupporting and approving associated technical work directly related to the disciplinePlaying an active role in the business groups through regular meetings, workshops, training and business planning

Qualifications

Ideally, you will have 10+ years of experience in civil design within a professional services or consultancy environment servicing private and public sector clients in Western Australia. In addition, you will also have:

Associate Degree or Advanced Diploma of Civil Engineering (or equivalent qualification) or significant experience as a senior civil designerValid full drivers licenseDesign of multi-disciplinary projects using 12D and AutocadExposure to Microstation and CADconformExperience supporting and approving associated technical work directly related to the discipline and in project management capacitiesA thorough understanding of civil design principles pertaining to land development, storm water, flood modelling, civil infrastructure or roads (preferred disciplines)Familiarity with local and national design and drawing standardsStrong client management capabilitiesPeople leadership experience, preferred but not mandatoryWillingness to coach junior designers with advice on solutions and develop fit-for-purpose solutions to engineering problemsStrong written and verbal communication skills to participate in business develop activities as needed
