Occupational Therapist

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join the team at The Star Care Group in Perth, WA. This is a part-time position that offers you the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our participants through evidence-based therapeutic interventions and person-centred care. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in helping individuals of all ages achieve independence, improve their functional abilities and enhance their quality of life. This position is based in Perth and involves travelling directly to participants around Perth and Mandurah, whether that's their home, school, or another familiar environment. You will be part of a collaborative allied health team committed to delivering high-quality rehabilitation and therapeutic services.

What you'll be doing

• Travelling to participants in their own environment - home, school or community setting, to deliver therapy where it's most relevant and effective for them

• Conducting comprehensive occupational therapy assessments to identify participant needs, abilities and goals across various settings

• Developing and implementing individualised treatment plans tailored to each participant's specific requirements and objectives

• Delivering evidence-based occupational therapy interventions focusing on activities of daily living, functional mobility, work-related tasks and community participation

• Collaborating with  team members including registered nurse, services manager, support coordinator, social worker and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and holistic participant care.

• Organise, conduct and participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings relating to client services, care planning, progress reviews and participant outcomes.

• Educating participants and their families about therapeutic programmes, adaptive strategies and equipment recommendations

• Maintaining detailed and accurate participant records in accordance with professional standards and legislative requirements.

• Monitoring participant progress and adjusting treatment plans as needed to ensure optimal outcomes

• Contributing to a positive workplace culture through effective communication and teamwork with colleagues

• Staying current with best practice standards and participating in professional development opportunities

• Preparing and maintaining accurate documentation, progress notes, progress reports and assessments.

• Assess and recommend assistive technology, equipment and environmental or home modifications where required.

• Deliver therapy services in line with NDIS principles, participant choice, rights and goals.

• Build respectful and trusted relationships with participants, families, carers, advocates and support teams.

• Communicate clearly, respectfully and inclusively, adapting your approach to each participant’s needs.

• Identify and respond to changes in participant needs, risks, wellbeing or safety concerns.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy, Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, Master of Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification.

• Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as an Occupational Therapist, or eligibility to obtain unrestricted registration prior to commencement.

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably working with NDIS participants, is desirable but not essential.

• Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.

• A demonstrated understanding of occupational therapy principles and their application in clinical practice

• Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills to address diverse participant needs

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with participants from diverse backgrounds

• The ability to work autonomously whilst collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment

• A commitment to participant-centred practice and person-centred care principles

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple participants efficiently

• Experience working in rehabilitation, community health or allied health settings is highly valued

• A genuine passion for helping others achieve independence and improve their functional abilities

• A full driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly to participants across Perth and Peel region.

• Understanding of the NDIS framework, or willingness to learn.

• Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain.

• Current NDIS Worker Orientation Module, or willingness to complete.

• Current Working with Children Check

• Strong computer literacy, including confidence using Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as the ability to learn client management and reporting systems.

What we offer

• Part-time role with potential to convert to full-time.

• Salary range of $85,000 to $110,000 per year, pro rata, depending on experience.

• A company car and fuel card will be provided for work-related travel, including visiting participants, attending appointments and meeting clients in the community.
