THE OPPORTUNITY

We're looking for our next experienced Bookkeeper / BAS Agent to join our growing practice.

We're a busy, established accounting practice with an excellent client base and a steady flow of new referrals.

We're looking for someone experienced who can take ownership of client work, build great relationships and become a valued part of our team.

A registered BAS Agent is preferred, but we're also very interested in experienced Bookkeepers and Accountants with the right skills and attitude.

We're happy to build the role around the right person.

THE PACKAGE

• $80,000- $95,000 + superannuation full-time

FLEXIBLE WORKING — REALLY FLEXIBLE

We've found a great balance between remote and in-office work.

We currently have 9 permanently remote team members across Australia, while some of our local staff work from home part of the week and others choose to come into the office every day.

We work with each person to find an arrangement that suits their life and allows them to do their best work.

Some of our team work four-day weeks.

Some work part-time spread across the week.

Some have completely different hours from one day to the next.

We don't believe everyone needs to work the same way.

We're ideally looking for someone who can work 3–4 days or more per week, and full-time is available for the right person.

If you're particularly available on Mondays and Fridays, that's a bonus — but we're more interested in finding the right person than filling a particular timetable.

For remote work, you'll need a suitable home office environment with reliable internet, privacy for confidential client information and the ability to work without regular distractions.

Our team of 22 includes Bookkeepers, BAS Agents and Tax Agents, supported by our administration, HR and technology functions.

We work with clients all over Australia across industries including:

Some clients need us to handle their entire back office — bookkeeping, payroll, AP, HR, BAS, tax and technology.

Others simply need their BAS or annual tax return completed.

That gives our team a really interesting variety of work.

Experience with these systems is highly regarded.

You don't need to know every system — we can train the right person — but you should be confident with technology and enjoy learning new software.

WE NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN THINK FOR THEMSELVES

Our clients don't always arrive with perfectly organised books.

Sometimes a new file needs a clean-up. Sometimes there's a backlog. Sometimes you need to work out what happened before you can work out what needs to happen next.

We need someone who enjoys solving those problems.

You can look at a messy file, work out what's important, use good judgement and get it back into shape without getting completely bogged down.

You care about accuracy and compliance, but you also understand materiality, efficiency and practical bookkeeping.

You know when something needs investigating — and when it's time to make a sensible decision and move forward.

That's the kind of experience and judgement we're looking for.

ABOUT YOU

You may be:

• An experienced Bookkeeper

• A registered BAS Agent

• An Accountant looking for a more people-focused practice

• Someone with extensive public practice experience

• An experienced industry bookkeeper ready to move into public practice

Ideally, you will have:

• 5+ years' bookkeeping / accounts experience

• BAS Agent registration highly regarded

• Strong Xero experience

• Strong Australian bookkeeping knowledge

• Payroll and STP experience

• BAS and GST experience

• Strong reconciliation skills

• Experience taking over and cleaning up existing client files

• Excellent customer service skills

• Strong communication skills

• Confidence working independently

• Good time management and organisation

• A willingness to learn and help others

• A positive, can-do attitude

• A good sense of humour — essential!

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Depending on your experience, your role may include:

• End-to-end bookkeeping

• Accounts payable and receivable

• Bank and balance sheet reconciliations

• End-to-end payroll and STP

• BAS and IAS preparation

• Payroll Tax

• TPAR

• Superannuation

• Fuel Tax Credits

• WorkCover

• Long Service Leave returns

• Financial reporting

• Cashflow forecasting and budgeting

• Xero setups and conversions

• Taking over and cleaning up existing client files

• Client communication and support

• Training clients in accounting software

• Assistance with grant applications

• Liaising with our BAS and Tax teams

Experience with Databuild, Workbench, Smokeball, ServiceM8, Buildertrend and other industry-specific systems is highly regarded.

Training will be provided where required.

YOUR LIFE OUTSIDE WORK MATTERS

Our office hours are 7am–5pm, Monday to Friday.

Within that window, we work with each team member to find the hours that suit them.

Some work four days.

Some work part-time.

Some spread their hours across the week.

Some have different hours on different days.

We really are flexible.

What we don't do is expect people to work outside those hours.

We want our team to be able to finish work, close the laptop and go and enjoy their families, friends, hobbies, holidays and weekends.

Because that's what work/life balance should actually mean.

AND YES — WE LIKE TO HAVE FUN TOO

We're serious about our clients and serious about doing great work.

But we're not serious all the time.

We have end-of-month lunches, team get-togethers, training days, celebrations and our annual Christmas party.

We like knowing what's happening in each other's lives.
