Part-Time Chef (Tax-Free Pay)

Your Role

As a part-time Chef in the Army Reserve, you’ll use your existing qualifications to work alongside fellow cooks to provide and support the dietary needs of soldiers. You’ll get to apply your skills to create food that sustains the Army’s performance, all while adding the challenge of a military experience to your everyday role.

Your duties may include:

• preparing, cooking and packaging complete meals
• cooking a variety of dishes, such as soups, entrees, mains and desserts
• learning the process of bulk cookery
• preparing meals in specialised field and commercial kitchens
• cooking at important functions and VIP events.

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax, and it increases as you gain seniority and experience.
Additional amounts are paid for time spent on exercises and deployments.

Location

You will train for 3 weeks in Wagga Wagga, NSW. Following your training, you will be posted to an Army unit close to where you live.

Eligibility
For this role, you must:

• Be at least 17 years of age when you enter the ADF
• Have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics

• Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare
• Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
• Be a qualified Chef/Cook who has completed an approved apprenticeship/traineeship at a recognised institution
