About the role
Are you a finance or accounting graduate looking for more than just another entry-level number-crunching job? At AFG, you will get hands-on exposure across a listed group's financial reporting, budgeting, tax and business partnering functions from day one — with real mentoring, real responsibility, and a clear runway to progress.
About the role
We are looking for an Assistant Finance Business Partner to join our Accounting team in Perth, reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner. This is a structured launchpad role: you will work closely with, and be mentored by, senior finance professionals as you build your foundations in accounting, reporting, tax and business partnering, with a clear pathway toward a full Finance Business Partner role as your skills and experience grow.
You will be involved in real month-end processes, real compliance obligations and real budgeting cycles from the outset — not just observing, but contributing, under guidance and review from experienced team members.
Key responsibilities
Month-end and management reporting — help prepare management accounts and operating reports, monitor earnings and expenditure against budget, and assist with variance analysis, reconciliations and journal postings.
Day-to-day accounting and compliance — get involved in the daily rhythm of a finance function, including banking entries, reconciliations, and accounts payable and receivable processing, while supporting compliance with group and statutory reporting standards.
Year-end support — assist with statutory accounts, liaise with auditors as directed, and build your understanding of end-of-financial-year processes from the ground up.
Tax and GST exposure — support preparation of calculations behind the Group's tax obligations, including BAS, FBT and other indirect tax requirements, and help compile information for R&D tax matters — excellent exposure for anyone building toward a CA or CPA.
Budgeting and forecasting — contribute to the Group's Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, cash, capital and staffing budgets and forecasts.
Relationship building — work across the business to keep financial information accurate and current, building the communication and stakeholder skills that underpin a long-term finance career.
Your own development — supported and encouraged to progress toward a CA or CPA, with regular coaching and feedback built into the role.
About you
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related business discipline (completed or nearing completion).
Little to no prior work experience required — a relevant internship, vacation program or graduate program is highly regarded but not essential.
A developing understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles, or a genuine aptitude and eagerness to learn quickly.
Progression toward a CA or CPA is a plus, though not required to apply.
Solid numerical and financial literacy, strong attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook skills, with enthusiasm to build these further.
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
A team player with a positive, curious attitude and genuine willingness to learn and take direction.
Ability to manage competing priorities with guidance from senior colleagues.
Occasional flexibility to work outside standard hours (including public holidays or weekends) may be required.
Why join AFG
Genuine mentoring with a clear, supported pathway from Assistant to full Finance Business Partner.
Broad exposure across a listed financial services group spanning aggregation and non-bank lending.
Support toward your professional accounting qualification (CA or CPA).
A collaborative, supportive team environment where your contribution is valued from day one.
