About the Position

The Female SEWB Worker will bring strong cultural knowledge, trauma-informed practice, and a client-centred approach to the Public Intoxication Response (PIR) service, supporting Community members in the Greater Bendigo and Castlemaine areas who may be experiencing social and emotional wellbeing challenges in addition to the impacts of alcohol and other drugs. Guided by Victoria’s health-based approach to public intoxication, the SEWB Worker will play an important role in engaging with individuals who are intoxicated, providing brief interventions, emotional support, and developing immediate care and safety plans.

This role will promote social and emotional wellbeing through culturally safe, strengths-based support, facilitating timely referrals and working collaboratively with the PIR team to ensure individuals receive respectful and holistic care. The Female SEWB Worker will draw on cultural healing approaches, advocate for the needs of Community members, and share knowledge and skills with team members to strengthen pathways to healing, connection and recovery. By fostering trust, empowering individuals, and linking them with ongoing supports, the SEWB Worker will contribute to a compassionate and effective PIR service that improves outcomes and promotes the wellbeing of Community members.

When not undertaking PIR responsibilities, the Female SEWB Worker will provide direct support within the broader Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) PIR program, maintaining an active caseload of clients. They will undertake holistic assessments, deliver case management, develop person-centred wellbeing plans, and support clients to address factors impacting their social, emotional, cultural, spiritual and physical wellbeing. Working collaboratively with clients, families and service providers, they will assist individuals to identify goals, strengthen cultural identity and community connections, access appropriate supports, and progress towards improved health, wellbeing and healing outcomes. This dual role supports continuity of care between immediate PIR responses and ongoing SEWB support services, ensuring Community members receive coordinated and culturally responsive care.

About You

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, community priorities, Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) principles, and the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) model of care, with a commitment to providing culturally safe and responsive services.
• Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in the Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) sector, including trauma-informed practice, strengths-based approaches, cultural healing, wellbeing support, and care coordination.
• Willingness to participate in an after-hours on-call roster, including responding to referrals, undertaking outreach, managing risk, and providing timely support to individuals experiencing social, emotional, cultural and wellbeing-related challenges.
• Demonstrated experience in client assessment, case management, care coordination, and supporting individuals with complex health, wellbeing and social needs.
• Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with individuals experiencing social and emotional wellbeing challenges, including those who may be intoxicated, vulnerable, experiencing distress, or facing multiple barriers to accessing services.
•  Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and establish effective relationships with health services, community organisations, emergency services, cultural supports, and other stakeholders.
• Highly developed communication, interpersonal and advocacy skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, families, Community members and service providers.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement, manage competing priorities, and respond effectively within a community-based outreach and on-call environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed, culturally safe and person-centred practice, continuous quality improvement, professional development, and evidence-informed service delivery.
• Demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health and wellbeing, and the ability to support clients to strengthen cultural identity, community connection, resilience, healing and overall wellbeing outcomes.

Education, Training and/or Competencies

Mandatory

• Minimum Certificate IV in Community Services, Mental Health, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, Social and Emotional Wellbeing, or a related field.
• Current Victorian Driver’s Licence

Preferred/Desired

• Previous experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community members or in an Aboriginal organisation.
