Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

REDARC are looking for a strong team player and passionate talented engineer to join our team to work as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in a full time permanent capacity in our office in Lonsdale, SA.

About the Role

Your key responsibilities will include.

Innovation

• Lead the mechanical design of enclosures, looms, and assemblies for electronic circuits used in an automotive environment.
• Lead the Mechanical Design, prototype sourcing, tooling commencement and sub-contracting communications, for progressing the volume manufacture of metal and plastic enclosures using technologies including sheet, cast, extrusion, CNC, injection moulding and 3D printing.
• Lead thermal design solutions for heatsinking of electronic components.
• Mechanical drafting and the thorough and accurate construction of clearly versioned data-packages for internal and sub-contractor use.

Customer Satisfaction and Quality

• Develop, drive and present mechanical and industrial design concepts in cooperation with internal and external customers.
• Own the mechanical design, from concept through each stage to mass production.
• Develop strong relationships with local and overseas suppliers and be in constant communication with them to ensure products are manufactured to the intent and quality standards required.
• Attend customer meetings when required and continuously manage customer expectations throughout projects with clear communication.
• Work closely with T&C to progress environmental testing of parts/products to appropriate international and domestic Standards including vibration, salt-mist, IP, shock/drop tests, torque rating etc.

Team Work & Environment

• Work with cross-functional departments including Engineering, Production and Quality to ensure suitability and fitness for the purpose of design, fit for and safe and low cost of manufacturing.
• Through product design / redesign ensure products are designed to have minimal impact on the environment and adhere to jurisdictional materials requirements (RoHS, REACH, UL etc.). 

About you

• Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent industry experience.
• 10+ years practical experience in product development and design.
• Extensive knowledge of mechanical enclosures, testing standards, plastics and sheet metal design. 
• Experience in casting/moulding tooling design, working with sub-contract manufacturers. 
• Advanced skills in SolidWorks, 3D modelling and engineering drawings. 
• Understanding of FEA/CFD, DFMA and familiar with the use of mechanical files /3D models with Altium.
• Experience in automative requirements and standards / working on projects using the Stage Gate process. (desirable).
• Excellent communication skills at all levels of business.

Clearances

Location

This role is fully based on site at Lonsdale, SA 5160. While ongoing work-from-home arrangements are not offered, flexibility may be supported on an ad-hoc basis where operationally appropriate.
