Colin McWhinney CPA is seeking a Tax Accountant to join our team on a part-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity to utilise your taxation expertise in a dynamic accounting environment. Based in Sinnamon Park, QLD, this role offers the flexibility of part-time work whilst making a meaningful contribution to our clients' tax planning and compliance needs. As a Tax Accountant, you will be at the forefront of delivering high-quality tax advice and services, supporting both individuals and businesses in managing their tax obligations effectively.
Key responsibilities
Prepare and lodge tax returns for individual and corporate clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requirements
Conduct tax planning and strategy discussions with clients to identify opportunities for tax minimisation within legal frameworks
Review financial records and documentation to ensure all tax deductions and credits are correctly claimed
Maintain detailed working papers and client files to support audit trails and ensure compliance documentation
Provide tax advice on matters including capital gains, investment income, and business structures
Stay current with changes in tax legislation
Assist with tax compliance matters and address client queries regarding their tax positions
What we're looking for
A recognised accounting qualification such as CA, CPA, or IPA, or equivalent relevant tertiary qualification in accounting or taxation
Demonstrated experience in tax preparation and tax compliance for a variety of client types
Strong knowledge of Australian tax legislation, the tax code, and ATO requirements
Proficiency with tax software and accounting systems commonly used in practice
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in preparing complex tax documentation
Strong client communication skills with the ability to explain tax concepts clearly to clients with varying levels of financial knowledge
The ability to work independently and manage multiple client files efficiently
A commitment to professional ethics and ongoing professional development
Preferred: Experience in a CPA practice or accounting firm environment; familiarity with superannuation taxation; exposure to business advisory services
