About the role
Create real impact by elevating the voice of lived experience
Ovarian Cancer Australia (OCA) is the national leader in advocacy and support for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer and their families. After extensive consultation, OCA has developed a bold new strategic plan to expand our vital support and advocacy to include all women affected by gynaecological cancers. Our deep commitment to the ovarian cancer community remains unwavering. This expansion responds to an urgent, unmet need and aligns closely with national health priorities. We’re seeking exceptional people who share our purpose and want to help bring this vision to life.
About the opportunity
We're seeking a collaborative and purpose-driven professional to join OCA as our Consumer Engagement Program Lead.
This newly created role will establish and coordinate OCA's organisation-wide approach to consumer engagement, ensuring lived experience informs our services, advocacy, programs and organisational initiatives. Working in collaboration with other teams across OCA, you will develop the frameworks, systems and participation opportunities that enable meaningful consumer involvement across the organisation.
OCA is in the early stages of developing a formal consumer engagement approach. This role offers a unique opportunity to build the foundations of a sustainable program that amplifies the voices of women and families affected by ovarian and gynaecological cancers and supports their participation in shaping the future of care, support and advocacy.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing OCA's consumer engagement framework and governance arrangements.
Establishing and coordinating consumer advisory structures and lived experience participation opportunities.
Working with teams across the organisation to embed consumer voice into programs, services, advocacy, campaigns and organisational initiatives.
Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on consumer engagement activities and impact.
Building relationships with consumers, clinicians, researchers, community organisations and sector partners.
About you
You are a skilled relationship-builder and facilitator who is passionate about meaningful participation and lived experience engagement. You bring experience developing programs, frameworks, initiatives or services and have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across diverse stakeholder groups.
You are comfortable influencing without formal authority, supporting others to achieve shared outcomes and translating ideas into practical action. You have strong communication and project management skills and are committed to inclusive, ethical, trauma-informed and culturally safe approaches to engagement. Experience supporting people affected by cancer or other serious health conditions will be highly regarded.
Location - Queen Victoria Women's Centre, Lonsdale Street, Melbourne (Hybrid)
Contract - 2 year fixed-term, 0.6 FTE
Mandatory - Australian work rights and National Police Check clearance
To apply, please submit your resume together with a cover letter outlining your interest and suitability for the role. We are planning to hold first round interviews on Wednesday 2 September and Thursday 3 September.
If you're passionate about strengthening consumer voice and helping shape the future of support and advocacy for women affected by ovarian and gynaecological cancers, we'd love to hear from you.
