Alpha Archaeology values collaboration, professional integrity, and clear communication, and offers opportunities to contribute to diverse projects that shape how heritage is understood and protected.Role Description The Senior Heritage Advisor is a full-time, on-site role based in Melbourne, VIC, responsible for leading and delivering cultural heritage and archaeological projects from inception to completion. Day-to-day tasks include conducting field surveys and site inspections, preparing heritage impact assessments, managing permits and compliance documentation, and liaising with clients, government agencies, and Traditional Owner groups. The role involves drafting high-quality technical reports, providing strategic heritage advice to project teams, overseeing junior staff, and ensuring all work meets legislative requirements and professional standards. The Senior Heritage Advisor will also support business development activities, and help refine internal methodologies and quality assurance processes.QualificationsRelevant tertiary qualification in archaeology, anthropology, heritage management, history, or a related discipline, with substantial experience in heritage advisory or consulting roles.Demonstrated experience in cultural heritage assessment and management within Victoria, including familiarity with applicable legislation, planning frameworks, and industry guidelines.Proven ability to plan and lead fieldwork programs, manage project timelines and budgets, and deliver clear, accurate technical reports under deadlines.Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working collaboratively with clients, regulators, Traditional Owner groups, and multidisciplinary project teams.Experience mentoring and supervising junior practitioners, supporting their professional development, and promoting a safe and inclusive work environment.High level of attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with proficiency in common office software; experience with GIS or spatial data tools is advantageous.Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to field sites as required; current professional memberships or registrations relevant to heritage practice are a plus.
