About the role
About The Role
We are looking for a commercially curious Category Executive to join Tassal's Commercial team and help shape category growth across the Australian grocery channel. Working closely with the Category Manager, you will turn complex retailer, shopper and market data into meaningful insights that drive category decisions and support retail partnerships.
This is an exciting opportunity to build a career in category management within a fast-paced FMCG environment. You'll work with real retail and consumer data, support category range reviews, build evidence-based stories, and present insights to internal stakeholders and retail customers. You'll gain exposure across Sales, Marketing and Category teams while developing the strategic and analytical skills that underpin successful category careers.
What You'll Do
Analyse retailer scan data, consumer panels, shopper behaviour and market trends to identify category opportunities and competitive threatsWork with retailer data platforms (such as Quantium and Coles Synergy) to understand customer behaviour and support category recommendationsSupport promotional analysis and effectiveness – identifying what worked and optimising future activityBuild clear, data-driven stories and supporting analysis for retailer negotiations, range reviews and category initiativesPrepare regular category and performance reporting with accuracy and attention to detailPresent findings to internal teams and retail partners in a way that makes complex data accessibleRespond collaboratively to ad-hoc business requests from Sales, Marketing and LeadershipSupport external research partners and help build category knowledge across the team
About You
2+ years in FMCG (Category, Sales, Marketing, Commercial or similar commercial function)Strong analytical capability – you're comfortable with data, can spot patterns, and translate numbers into decisionsProficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent) is valued but not essentialExperience with market data providers (Circana, NIQ, or equivalent) is a plus – but hands-on experience with any shopper or retail dataset countsFood, fresh produce or perishable categories helpful; equivalent FMCG experience in other categories welcomeExcellent communication skills – you can explain analysis clearly to both technical and non-technical audiencesDetail-oriented; committed to accuracy in reporting and recommendationsCurious, proactive, and genuinely interested in building a commercial career – you're keen to learn the category and the business
