Operations Team: Contract Manager, Operations Manager & Allocator

John West Logistics is a major distribution company specialising in contract logistics, operating across the east coast of Australia and New Zealand. Following a major new contract win, we are building a high-performing operations team to drive a fast-paced, dynamic, and demanding transport operation in Victoria.

We are seeking experienced, driven logistics professionals for the following key positions:

• Contract Manager

• Operations Manager

• Allocator / Fleet Coordinator

About the Roles

As part of our Victorian leadership and dispatch team, you will be responsible for setting the benchmark in service execution, driver engagement, and operational compliance.

Depending on the position, key responsibilities and required expertise include:

• Operational Leadership & Fleet Management: Direct oversight of dedicated fleets (20+ vehicles across multiple shifts), ensuring optimal route efficiency, vehicle utilization, and service delivery.

• Team & Driver Engagement: Fostering a safety-first, positive workplace culture while effectively managing drivers, operations staff, and stakeholder relationships.

• Compliance & Safety: Strong, practical knowledge of:

• Fatigue Management & Chain of Responsibility (CoR)

• Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) & NHVAS

• Load Restraint Guidelines & safety enforcement

• Commercial & Employee Relations: Experience with EBA negotiations/agreements, driving performance, and managing financial targets, reporting, and KPIs (Managerial roles).

• Specialized Logistics: Experience handling over-dimensional / specialized loads will be highly regarded.

• Experience: 5+ years in operational management or high-volume allocation within the road transport and contract logistics sector.

• Mindset: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure, and deadline-driven contract launch environment.

• Communication: Excellent leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to engage drivers, client contacts, and executive management.
