Executive Director, Australasian Council of Auditors-General

About the role

The Executive Director will lead the strategic operations of ACAG including advancing ACAG's 2026-29 Strategic Plan, represent the interest of Members, deliver effective thought leadership outcomes, and build strong, positive, and enduring state, national and international partnerships with ACAG's stakeholders. The Executive Director will provide expert advice and operational excellence across ACAG's functions. This role presents a unique opportunity to further influence and strengthen the value of public sector auditing in the Australasian region, expanding ACAG's influence on contemporary issues facing statutory audit offices both nationally and internationally.

Key responsibilities

• In partnership with the ACAG Executive, develop and mature ACAG's strategy

• Achieve ACAG's vision, mission, and strategic objectives through effective thought leadership, advocacy and educational opportunities and monitoring of performance against the strategic goals

• Analyse industry changes and trends, identify internal and external threats and opportunities, and provide informed advice and recommendations on emerging issues and risks of strategic importance to Auditors-General

• Identify and progress opportunities for innovation and collaboration between audit offices

• Develop and lead the ACAG thought leadership program

• Lead mutually beneficial relationships with key external bodies and partners including government, professional bodies, academic institutions, Parliaments, think tanks, local, national, and international organisations

• Increase public awareness and build understanding of the role of the Auditor-General

• Provide high level advice and support to the ACAG Convenor and Executive

• Provide secretariat support to ACAG Business Meetings twice per year and support to the secretariats of each subcommittee

About you

• Relevant tertiary qualification and/or significant professional services experience

• Previous public sector audit experience is highly desirable

• Shapes strategic thinking – applies strategic knowledge and perspective, exceptional critical thinking, intellectual agility, and superior judgement to position the ACAG to meet the needs of key stakeholders

• Achieves results – drives the ACAG agenda, defining high level objectives and ensuring the integration of professional expertise into the Secretariat to improve its overall performance

• Cultivates productive working relationships - consistently builds productive and sustainable internal and external relationships, while demonstrating a strong commitment in delivering quality client services

• Highly developed communication and presentation skills and ability to influence – confidently communicates the vision and purpose of ACAG and ACAG's thought leadership materials

About us

The Australasian Council of Auditors General (ACAG) is an unincorporated membership association governed by a constitution. It was established over 60 years ago as a consultative mechanism to support the structured sharing of information and intelligence between its Members. ACAG's Members include the Auditors-General of all Australian National, State and Territory Audit Offices, and the Auditors-General of New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea. To assist ACAG executive achieve its Strategic Plan, the governance structure comprises an Executive Committee of three Auditors-General and several sub-committees either chaired by or sponsored by an Auditor-General.
