The Position

We recognise that great candidates bring different strengths and levels of experience. As such, we are open to placing the successful candidate to either the Access and Inclusion Officer or Family Support Counsellor position, depending on their skills, qualifications and experience.

ACCESS AND INCLUSION OFFICER (entry level position) 

The Access and Inclusion Officer will be the local representative that is responsible for engaging and building relationships within the community, ensuring increased engagement with Helping Minds, with a focus on Helping Minds Child, Youth and Family Services. The position will also provide quality intake services, meeting client needs efficiently and effectively, and facilitate this where needed for all

Helping Minds programs.

Responsibilities of the role include: (not limited to):

• Participate in the Helping Minds intake system, screening and assessing needs, prioritising and making appropriate follow up appointments, referrals and bookings for other support team members
• Develop and deliver specialised groups and workshops
• Attend networking events and stakeholder meetings and promote the service where appropriate.

FAMILY SUPPORT COUNSELLOR 

Join a supportive team providing counselling supports to carers (both adults and young people) on an individual basis as well as in group settings. This position aims to strengthen a carer’s ability and capacity to support the person with a serious and persistent mental illness to live in the community, and to maintain and improve their quality of life, and to promote the carer’s/family’s own wellbeing.

Responsibilities of the role include:

• Provide a counselling service to young people (0-18) at risk of developing mental health issues and adult carers, including Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) carers.
• Employ both a brief intervention model for working with clients as well as therapeutic interventions where appropriate for the support HelpingMinds offers;
• Establish self-help Support Groups for Carers and provide support to the group once it is established;
• Develop wellbeing care plans with clients and utilising a strengths-based approach, discuss the issues and impact of mental health and apply goal setting and identifying support networks;

About You

You have experience providing 1:1 counselling supports and in group settings to both adults and young people

Minimum qualifications:

• Tertiary Degree in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work (a diploma is only required for Access & Inclusion Officer)
• Current Drivers License
• Proof of Australian Working Rights

Candidates will also either have or be willing to obtain the following:

• National Police Clearance (within 6 months)
• Working with Children Card
• Current First Aid Certificate
