About the role
Aries Rail is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing heavy vehicles, plant, earthmoving equipment, and specialized rail equipment. This role involves both workshop and field service duties, including 24/7 callout availability if required, ensuring our customers and Aries Rail's fleet is always operational and safe.
Key responsibilities
Conduct routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy vehicles, earthmoving machinery, and rail equipment
Provide on-site maintenance and repair services, including responding to emergency breakdowns and unscheduled repairs
Be available for on-call duties to respond to urgent repair needs, ensuring minimal downtime for essential equipment
Prepare detailed service and maintenance reports, documenting all work performed, parts used, and future maintenance recommendations
Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing duties, ensuring a safe working environment
Work closely with other team members, providing support and expertise to ensure the efficient operation of the equipment fleet
24/7 Callout: Be available for on-call duties to respond to urgent repair needs, ensuring minimal downtime for essential equipment. Candidates to expect to be on call at least one week per month.
About you
Proven experience as a Diesel mechanic, preferably with experience working on heavy vehicles, earthmoving equipment, and rail machinery
Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, electrical systems, and mechanical components
Heavy Vehicle Mechanic trade qualification is essential for this position
Ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues and implement effective solutions
Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly in preparing detailed service reports
Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, to meet the demands of the job
Current Rail Industry Worker (RIW) card or willingness to obtain (including CAT-3 medical and drug & alcohol screening)
