Disability Support Worker 
Location: Work available across Newcastle, Maitland and the Central Coast  Casual: $45.28 per hour  Hours: approximately 20 hours per week, availability between 7:00am and 8:00pm, Monday to Friday

About the Role 

As a Disability Support Worker, you’ll help participants build independence, develop life skills, connect with their communities, and work towards their personal and employment goals. You’ll be supporting participants across Newcastle, Maitland and the Central Coast. 

We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience supporting people with complex needs and high intensity supports, as well as those who are passionate about building confidence, developing skills and achieving positive outcomes. 

We welcome applications from experienced support workers and people with transferable skills gained in aged care, youth work, mental health, employment services, community services, customer service or other people-focused roles. 

You’ll need a valid driver’s licence and reliable private vehicle to travel between sites. 

What You’ll Bring 

We welcome both experienced support workers and those new to the industry. Hands-on training and ongoing support will be provided. 

Preferred Qualifications and Experience 

• A genuine passion for supporting people with disability to achieve their personal, social and employment goals. 
• Ability to positively engage participants, build motivation, increase confidence and support people who may experience anxiety or social barriers. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
• Good computer skills, including confidence using email, Microsoft Office and participant management systems. 
• Experience supporting people with disability, mental health challenges, or individuals experiencing barriers to employment (beneficial but not essential). 
• Experience providing Complex or High Intensity Supports, or relevant training in high-intensity support requirements, is highly regarded. 
• Understanding of the NDIS. 
• First Aid accreditation. 
• Cert III in Community Services, Youth Work, Disability or similar. 
• High attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records. 
• Flexibility and availability to work shifts between 7:00am and 8:00pm, based on participant needs. 

Key Responsibilities Include 

• Supporting participants in daily routines and community engagement. 
• Helping develop practical life skills, confidence and social connections. 
• Assisting participants to identify and work towards personal and employment goals. 
• Supporting job readiness activities including resume development, interview preparation and workplace skills where appropriate. 
• Building genuine relationships and empowering participants to take control of their lives. 
• Maintaining accurate participant records and documentation. 

Essential Requirements 

• NDIS Worker Check (or willingness to obtain). 
• Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain). 
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable private transport. 
• Alignment with Castle’s Vision, Purpose and Values.
