About the role
Primary Purpose of the Role-
To fabricate, weld, assemble, and repair aluminium, steel, and stainless steel components, specialising in trailer construction, chassis repairs, and structural metal work. The role supports daily workshop operations and contributes to maintaining high fabrication and welding standards.
Key Job Duties-
Fabrication & Welding
• Fabricate and weld aluminium, steel, and stainless steel components for trailers, chassis extensions, frames, and structural assemblies.
• Perform MIG, TIG, and other welding processes appropriate to material type and job specifications.
• Cut, mark out, shape, and prepare materials according to fabrication drawings and instructions.
• Interpret and work from technical drawings, welding symbols, and fabrication sketches.
• Assemble, fit, and align components using precision measuring tools to meet required tolerances.
• Conduct quality checks on welds and fabricated assemblies to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
• Set up, operate, adjust, and perform basic maintenance on welding equipment and workshop machinery.
Workshop & Production Operations
• Select and prepare materials based on job sheets and cutting lists.
• Operate workshop tools and machinery including saws, grinders, drills, and cutting equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment in accordance with workplace safety requirements.
• Assist with general workshop tasks to support production workflow and deadlines.
• Raise purchase orders for consumables, tools, and equipment repairs relevant to fabrication and welding tasks.
Repair & Modification Work
• Repair, modify, and reinforce metal structures including trailer frames, chassis components, and fabricated assemblies.
• Identify defects, structural issues, or weld failures and carry out corrective fabrication or welding work.
Logistics & Coordination
• When required, assist with transporting materials or fabricated items to external service providers (e.g., powder coating).
• Work flexibly within the team to support urgent or high priority fabrication jobs.
Training & Team Support
• Provide guidance and basic training to apprentices or junior fabricators when required.
• Contribute positively to a safe, productive, and team focused workshop culture.
Skills & Experience Required
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in metal fabrication and welding (aluminium, steel, stainless steel).
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and welding symbols.
• Skilled in developing jigs, templates, and efficient fabrication workflows.
• Competent in workshop machinery and hand tools.
• Trade qualification in Metal Fabrication, Welding, or related field.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Computer literacy for work orders and basic workshop documentation.
• Forklift licence, driver’s licence, and white card (desirable).
Physical Requirements
• Ability to safely lift and handle material.
• Standing, bending, and manual handling for extended periods.
Employment Details
• Position: Full time -$77064-$ a year /($39-$51per hour)
• Hours: 38 hours per week +Superannuation
• Location: NSW
