Job Title: Tax Accountant

Location: Subiaco, WA (with regular travel to Rockingham office)

Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 + superannuation, depending on experience and qualifications

About the Role

We are a well-established Chartered Accounting practice with offices in Subiaco and Rockingham, seeking a Tax Accountant to join our public practice team. This role is primarily focused on taxation compliance and advisory work for a diverse client base, with additional exposure to SMSF accounting and financial planning support as part of a broader, integrated public-practice environment. The successful candidate will be based across both offices, with regular travel to our Rockingham office required (approximately 2–3 days per week).

Key Responsibilities

Core — Tax & Accounting

• Preparation and lodgment of income tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts, and partnerships
• Preparation and lodgment of Business Activity Statements (BAS)
• Preparation of financial statements and taxation workpapers
• Provision of tax planning and compliance advice to clients
• Liaising with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) on client matters
• Reviewing and reconciling client accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with taxation legislation
• Managing client relationships and responding to accounting and taxation queries

Secondary — SMSF & Financial Planning Support

• Assisting with preparation of SMSF financial statements, tax returns, and compliance workpapers
• Supporting the financial planning team with preparation and implementation of Statements of Advice (SOAs) and Records of Advice (ROAs), particularly during peak periods
• Assisting with collation of supporting documentation for financial planning recommendations

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• CA qualified, or studying towards CA
• Minimum 2–3 years experience in a tax accounting role, ideally within Australian public practice
• Sound understanding of Australian taxation law, BAS, and compliance requirements
• Exposure to financial planning support or SOA/ROA preparation, given the role's involvement with the financial planning team during peak periods
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing tax returns, financial statements, and workpapers
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with clients
• Ability to work independently and as part of a professional team
• Willingness and ability to travel between Perth and Rockingham offices, approximately 2–3 days per week
• Working rights in Australia

Desirable:

• Prior exposure to SMSF accounting, taxation, or compliance
• Experience working within an integrated accounting and financial planning practice
• Familiarity with financial planning software and systems
• Own transport, given the travel requirement between offices
