About the Position 

As Head of Equity & Inclusion, you'll step into Arts Centre Melbourne at a moment of genuine momentum and take carriage of work this organisation cares about but has never properly built the foundations for. 

Our equity and inclusion work has been delivered in pieces to date: real intent, committed people, limited data, uneven governance and no consistent reporting rhythm. Your job is to change that. You'll design ACM's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plan, own our obligations under the Gender Equality Act 2020 (Vic) and the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic), lead our accessibility and disability inclusion commitments, and build an evidence base that lets us say honestly what is working, what is not, and what will change as a result. 

You'll also provide the systems, data and reporting infrastructure that enable ACM's Reconciliation Action Plan, working alongside our First Nations leaders, who hold cultural authority and leadership for that work. You enable it. You don't lead or speak for it. 

Reporting to the Director, People & Culture, you'll lead a small and capable team and sit on the People & Culture leadership team, working across People Operations, Organisational Development & Enablement and Health, Safety & Wellbeing so that equity is built into how this place actually works, rather than run alongside it as a separate program. 

This is a role for someone who has run out of patience for statements of intent and wants a mandate, a measurement framework and a reporting line to the Trust instead. 

Full-time ongoing position. Band 5.3 $146,307.00 per annum plus superannuation. 

Your Skills and Experience 

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Organisational Development, Social Science, Law, Public Policy or a related field, or equivalent senior-level experience in an equity, inclusion or diversity leadership role. 
• Demonstrated experience designing and leading a diversity, equity and inclusion strategy in a complex, multi-stakeholder organisation, with a track record of moving an organisation from commitment to delivered outcomes. 
• Strong working knowledge of the Victorian legislative and regulatory environment, including the Gender Equality Act 2020 (Vic), the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) and the positive duty, and accessibility and disability inclusion obligations. 
• Demonstrated experience building reporting and measurement capability from a low base: designing metrics, establishing data collection, and producing reporting for executive, board and government audiences. 
• Experience working alongside First Nations colleagues and communities in a way that respects self-determination and cultural authority, and an understanding of how organisational infrastructure can enable rather than direct that work. 
• Demonstrated experience building trusted partnerships with senior leaders, influencing through expertise and evidence rather than authority, and delivering honest advice in politically sensitive environments. 
• Experience in, or a strong and demonstrated interest in, the arts and cultural sector, and an understanding of government, statutory or unionised operating environments, is beneficial.
