About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor to join our growing team based at Wetherill Park, NSW.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of our operations, ensuring the right people, vehicles and equipment are allocated to each job to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes for our customers.
This is a hands-on operational leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can confidently manage competing priorities and enjoys solving problems.
Scheduling & Operations
Manage the day-to-day operational activities of the allocated yard/depot.
Coordinate daily scheduling and allocation of work for trucks and Operators.
Plan and timetable services based on client requirements, urgency and operational priorities.
Develop rosters and job communications for Operators.
Ensure the correct Operators, vehicles and assets are allocated to each job.
Review current jobs and identify opportunities to improve service delivery.
Assess sites for suitability and operational requirements.
Monitor weather information and its potential impact on service delivery.
Maximise the utilisation of Operators and trucks.
Determine operational driver requirements and communicate staffing needs to the Operations Manager.
Coordinate vehicle movements as required.
Lead and manage on-site jobs where required.
Work collaboratively with Project Managers and Business Development Managers to meet client requirements.
Approve weekly timesheets.
Leadership & Team Management
Provide day-to-day operational support and leadership to Operators and Field Supervisors.
Conduct daily safety pre-start meetings.
Provide timely, constructive feedback and support employee performance.
Address operational and disciplinary matters appropriately and promptly.
Support employee training, competency development and operational onboarding.
Participate in recruitment interviews and new employee inductions.
Provide Operators with support regarding equipment, training, activities and operational issues.
Client & Stakeholder Management
Act as a key point of contact for Operators and operational stakeholders.
Liaise with clients regarding job bookings and operational requirements.
Respond to day-to-day enquiries and ensure a high level of customer service.
Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Work collaboratively across the business to resolve operational issues and deliver positive outcomes.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
Ensure employees comply with TDG Environmental safety requirements and procedures.
Conduct regular safety audits and provide feedback on safety trends.
Support the development and implementation of operational procedures and SWMS.
Ensure Operators have the safety, asset, job and risk assessment information required to perform work safely.
Prepare and maintain job packs and relevant safety documentation.
Support the maintenance of ISO 9001, AS/NZS 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Investigate workplace incidents and report them through the appropriate systems.
Ensure Chain of Responsibility requirements are met across operational activities.
Administration & Reporting
Validate Operator paperwork and timesheets for accuracy and completeness.
Ensure timesheets are submitted within required timeframes.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies with Operators.
Assist the Accounts team with operational paperwork and queries.
Prepare operational reports, including Excel-based reporting.
Maintain accurate records relating to vehicles, equipment and work activities.
Equipment & Inventory
Conduct site inventory and stocktakes.
Monitor and order PPE, consumables, tools and other operational requirements.
Prepare purchase orders and supporting documentation.
Manage yard and store inventory levels.
Ensure Operators have the correct equipment, kits and job documentation required for their work.
Ensure vehicle and asset pre-start and hand-back processes are completed.
Work closely with the Maintenance Manager regarding asset and vehicle requirements.
Continuous Improvement
Identify and implement opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
Contribute to initiatives that improve service delivery, productivity and profitability.
Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve utilisation.
Support a culture of continuous improvement across the Operations team.
Participate in programmed out-of-hours on-call duties and rosters where required.
About You
You will be an experienced operations professional who is confident in coordinating people, vehicles, and resources in a fast-paced environment.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
2+ years' experience in a similar operational or supervisory role.
Experience in allocation, scheduling and administration.
Experience within the waste industry or a similar vehicle-based industry is highly regarded.
Strong knowledge of the relevant work region.
Knowledge and understanding of applicable heavy vehicle legislation and Chain of Responsibility requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
The ability to confidently prioritise and manage competing demands.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
The ability to build effective relationships with employees, clients and stakeholders.
A proactive and solutions-focused approach.
The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
Relevant tertiary qualifications or studies are highly regarded.
