Why. The role is responsible for preparing, seasoning and cooking high-quality menu items in accordance with established recipes, presentation standards and food safety requirements. The Cook contributes to efficient kitchen operations, maintains consistent food quality, and supports the restaurant's commitment to delivering an exceptional dining experience for customers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Prepare, season and cook a wide range of menu items in accordance with established recipes and presentation standards. Examine food ingredients and supplies to ensure freshness, quality and suitability before use. Operate and regulate grills, ovens, fryers and other commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
Monitor cooking times, temperatures and food quality throughout preparation and service. Portion and present meals to ensure consistency, quality and customer satisfaction. Prepare meals to accommodate customer dietary requirements, allergies and special requests where required.
Assist with daily food preparation planning to meet anticipated customer demand while minimising food waste. Assist with menu development, recipe improvements and estimating food requirements. Maintain appropriate stock rotation using FIFO principles and ensure food is stored correctly in temperature-controlled facilities.
Assist with receiving, inspecting and storing food deliveries, ensuring stock meets quality standards. Monitor stock levels and notify management when ingredients and supplies require replenishment. Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen, including workstations, equipment and storage areas.
Ensure compliance with Food Safety Standards, HACCP principles, workplace health and safety policies, and restaurant procedures. Report equipment faults, maintenance requirements or food safety concerns to management promptly. Work collaboratively with the Head Chef and kitchen team to ensure efficient service during busy trading periods.
