About the role
THE ROLE
As the Community Liaison Officer, you will play an important role in strengthening the partnership between the College and Karen students and families. Working closely with staff, students and parents, you will provide culturally responsive support that promotes engagement, inclusion and understanding across the College community.
This position focuses on building positive connections, supporting families to navigate key school processes, and encouraging participation in educational opportunities and College events. Through targeted, scheduled and high-impact interactions, you will help reduce barriers to engagement while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for Karen families.
As a trusted cultural connection point, you will provide guidance, facilitate communication and assist families to access appropriate supports, while working within a referral-based model that ensures specialist wellbeing, learning support and financial matters remain with the relevant College teams.
This role is part time at a 0.2 FTE (7.6 hours per week), days can be by negotiation.
WHAT YOU BRING
You are passionate about supporting students and families and have a strong understanding of the Karen community, culture and lived experiences. You are a skilled relationship builder who can establish trust, communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and work collaboratively within a school environment.
You will bring:
Strong connections to, or understanding of, the Karen community and culture.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills.
The ability to communicate sensitively and respectfully across cultural and language differences.
Experience supporting individuals, families or community groups within education, community services, multicultural services or a related field.
The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement when managing sensitive information.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work within a part-time, targeted support model.
Confidence using basic digital systems and maintaining accurate records.
A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with staff, students, families and external agencies.
Understanding of the importance of inclusion, equity and culturally responsive practice.
Fluency in Karen and English will be highly regarded.
