We are excited to announce a new opportunity for the role of Refugee Health Bicultural Support Worker (Part-Time) – Toowoomba Level 3.1 (6 Month Max-Term Contract).

Position Details:

• Schedule: 3 days per week

• Hours: 45.6 hours per fortnight

• Arabic, Kurdish, Kurmanji speakers 

 Multicultural Australia Client Services provides settlement support and case management to newly arrived humanitarian entrants, people seeking asylum and unaccompanied minors. This support creates opportunities for clients to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to achieve social and economic wellbeing in their new communities.

The Refugee Health Bicultural Support Worker delivers client-focused services that improve health literacy and strengthen the capacity of healthcare providers in Toowoomba to support refugee and migrant communities.

 The primary purpose of the role is to provide culturally responsive health support, capacity building, and assistance with access and referral pathways to allied health, medical, specialist and other wellbeing services.

Key responsibilities

• Promote shared learning and support clients to build skills and confidence through self-directed learning, health information and education.

• Identify and advocate for the health and wellbeing needs of clients and communities.

• Apply an understanding of health systems from a refugee and settlement perspective.

• Review materials, resources and services to ensure they are accessible, culturally safe and appropriate for clients.

• Share information in relevant languages and in culturally appropriate ways.

• Provide cultural guidance and knowledge to the Refugee Health Officer, allied health practitioners and medical practitioners to support capacity building.

• Support clients to access health and wellbeing services, information and programs delivered by external agencies and other relevant sources.

• Provide orientation and mentoring to clients who require support to achieve health and wellbeing settlement milestones, escalating matters to Refugee Health Officer and Case Managers as required.

• Provide administrative support to the Refugee Health Officer, including uploading documents to databases and ensuring relevant information is submitted within required timeframes and operational frameworks.

• Participate in activities delivered through community hubs, allied health, medical and specialist services, and other wellbeing supports.

About you

• Proficient English language skills, including reading, writing and verbal communication

• Sound and accurate knowledge of Australian culture, systems and services relevant to settlement, with the ability to clearly explain essential life skills and practical information to support clients to establish independent lives in Australia.

• Demonstrated ability and willingness to work effectively across cultures, supporting clients to maintain connections with their culture of origin while developing meaningful social and community connections in Australia.

• Demonstrated ability to provide culturally informed advice and guidance to clients and Multicultural Australia staff.

• Demonstrated commitment to working respectfully with all members of the community, regardless of cultural or religious background, and to upholding principles of social justice and human rights.

• Valid Queensland Driver's Licence

• Possession of, or willingness and eligibility to obtain a Blue Card (Working with Children Suitability Card)

• National Police Clearance Check
