About the role
Stroke Foundation is a national not-for-profit organisation committed to reducing the impact of stroke across Australia. We work alongside stroke survivors, carers, health professionals, government, and the broader community to prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery.
This role is fixed term until 30 June 2028 and can be located anywhere is Australia. The position is flexible at 4 or 5 days per week.
Overall purpose of the program:The Australian Stroke Coalition (ASC) was established by the Stroke Foundation and the Australian and New Zealand Stroke Organisation (ANZSO) (formerly the Stroke Society of Australasia). The Coalition brings together representatives from groups and organisations working in the stroke field, such as clinical networks and professional associations/colleges.
The ASC works through cooperation and collective effort to tackle agreed priorities to improve stroke care, reduce duplication amongst groups and strengthen the voice for stroke care at a national and state level.
In 2021, ASC members agreed that an area of focus of the coalition's workplan should be the development of a voluntary system for certification of stroke units in Australian hospitals.
In 2023, the certification process was successfully piloted in a selection of Australian stroke units, and demonstrated feasibility, relevance and utility for uplifting stroke services to meet the criteria (determined by external peer review) for stroke unit care.
