The Subdivision Officer role plays a vital role in the City of Stonnington, contributing to the delivery of high-quality subdivision outcomes in alignment with the organisation’s strategic objectives and the statutory planning framework. 

This role specialises in the processing and assessment of subdivision applications along with all other subdivision processes in accordance with relevant Council policies, procedures and Planning Scheme provisions and within the relevant statutory timeframes. 

You will be an integral member of the City Planning team!

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and process all subdivision approvals including planning applications, referrals, certifications, and statements of compliance in accordance with all relevant Acts, Regulations, Planning Scheme requirements and Council policies 
• Implement the Statutory Planning functions of Council and provide an efficient, accurate and effective service to the community. 
• Provide advice and information on subdivision related matters, planning scheme requirements and Council policies to the public and planning applicants. 
• Work with other Council Units and external authorities when assessing applications.
• Contribute to the provision of a quality and professional planning service. 
• Work with team members and contribute to the Unit in a positive and productive manner. 
• Seek advice from and provide advice to other members regarding subdivision and planning issues. Ensure effective communication internally and with external customers and contacts. 
• Provide concise written communication and prepare routine correspondence.
• Contribute to the provision of a quality and professional planning service. 
• Work with team members and contribute to the Unit in a positive and productive manner. 
• Seek advice from and provide advice to other members regarding subdivision and planning issues. 
• Ensure effective communication internally and with external customers and contacts. 
• Provide concise written communication and prepare routine correspondence.

Join us in this full-time temporary role from approximately October 2026 until 21 January 2028, offering a competitive salary range of $102,368 - $110,865 plus 12% superannuation and a monthly accrued day off.

What you’ll need to succeed:

• Ability to effectively manage time, set priorities, and organize tasks to meet objectives efficiently within available resources and deadlines.
• A tertiary qualification in Town Planning or Land Surveying or equivalent and some experience in Planning; or related qualification with substantial experience in Planning, along with eligibility for corporate membership of the P.I.A. 
• Demonstrated work experience in Statutory Planning that showcases applicable skills and knowledge. 
• Hold a sound understanding of the Victorian Planning Policy framework with awareness of current planning, development, economic, social and environmental issues and policy development. Technology savvy with well-developed PC skills, with knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of applications
• Competence in providing specialist advice or regulating client interactions within established guidelines, with an understanding of the implications of decisions and the ability to navigate appeals or reviews by senior staff. 
• Ability to provide advice to planning customers and assess planning applications in accordance with the established policies and operational procedures for the City Planning Department. 
• Competence to be accountable for the efficient operation of the subdivision approval process.
