Yard Master - RTS OPS IOC

Downer Rail & Transit Systems a leading name in the manufacturing and maintenance of rolling stock across Australia has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Yard Master to join our in Auburn. This is a full-time permanent opportunity.

The Yard Master is primarily responsible for the safe movement of all rail vehicles within the boundaries of the Auburn Maintenance Facility.

Working a 24/7 roster; the Yard Master will plan for all rail vehicles to be suitably positioned to allow for relevant maintenance activities and ensure the production targets are met. The organisation of the yard area and rail vehicle stabling should allow for all departures to occur as per plan with no delays.

The Yard Master will also be able to carry out train moves where necessary and liaise with relevant personnel, to manage any rail vehicle move. Wash plant operations are controlled by the Yard Master as is any activity being carried out within the yard boundary.

  About You:

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience within the rail industry with the proven ability to conduct safe and efficient rolling stock movements.
• Must hold a drivers licence C level or above. 
• Must have very good communication skills.
• Highly developed planning and organisational skills
• The ability to plan stabling positions to ensure arrivals are positioned relevant to their activities and departure constraints thus maximizing the efficiency of site operations.
• Commitment to maintaining a high level of customer service whilst meeting stringent operational targets.
• Must be computer literate and have good working skills of Microsoft Office applications such as Word and excel.
• An understanding of Lean and Continuous Improvement procedures
• Ability to motivate team members and encourage morale & team building.
• The ability to demonstrate clear logical thought processes and remain calm in a pressured environment.
• Always maintain a commitment to ZERO HARM policy.
