About the role
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for the planning, coordination and performance of all workshop fabrication activities. You will lead our workshop foremen, tradespeople and apprentices, ensuring production is completed safely, efficiently, on time and to the required quality standards. The role also carries responsibility for labour performance, production scheduling, job budgets and maintaining structure and accountability across the workshop.
Key responsibilities
Lead and coordinate the daily activities of workshop foremen, tradespeople and apprentices.
Develop and manage daily and weekly production schedules.
Allocate labour and resources across multiple workshop projects.
Set clear expectations for productivity, quality, safety and workplace behaviour.
Monitor job progress and adjust priorities to meet project deadlines.
Ensure fabrication is completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and applicable standards.
Monitor labour hours against job budgets and ensure hours are allocated correctly.
Identify cost overruns, production delays and workflow constraints early.
Maintain workshop quality assurance processes, inspections and documentation.
Minimise defects, rework, downtime and material waste.
About you
A relevant trade qualification.
Demonstrated experience managing or supervising a fabrication workshop.
Strong leadership and people-management capability.
Experience planning production and coordinating labour across multiple jobs.
The ability to interpret fabrication drawings and technical specifications.
A sound understanding of welding, fabrication and quality-control processes.
Commercial awareness, including labour budgets, job costing and productivity.
A strong working knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements.
The confidence to establish standards and hold employees accountable.
Clear communication, organisation and practical problem-solving skills.
