Cultural Navigator Connecting Community to Care | Southern Adelaide Health
Cultural Navigator role with SALHN Drug and Alcohol Services, supporting First Nations clients in Adelaide CBD.
About the role:
For this position we require a female applicant to satisfy cultural safety requirements of the role.
The Cultural Navigator is responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating plans, processes, staff education programs and tools to ensure that all day-to-day support and care needs are provided in a culturally safe and appropriate environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people participating in AOD Treatment. The Cultural Navigator is also responsible for developing and consulting on culturally appropriate diversional activities and providing expertise into the development of holistic admission assessment processes, written communications and publications for the DASSA clinical services.
Duties for the role will include:
Develop, coordinate and implement plans, processes and staff education programs and tools to ensure cultural safety and appropriateness at all times for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in DASSA programs.
Provide expertise into the development of holistic admission assessment processes to DASSA services and to ensure cultural safety and appropriateness at all times for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Provide expert advice to staff in relation to processes for gathering information on client's cultural history and relationships, language, associated cultural groups, kinship bonds of importance and family.
Monitor, evaluate and ensure that all day-to-day support and care needs are provided in a culturally safe and appropriate environment at DASSA facilities
Contribute to the development of plans to ensure clients have suitable accommodation prior to including liaising with relevant agencies.
About you:
Significant level of experience in working with Aboriginal agencies and communities.
Demonstrated experience in planning, coordinating, managing and evaluating complex education initiatives, processes and tools to ensure appropriate and safe cultural environments, engagement and communication with Aboriginal people.
Proven experience in delivering high quality and safe care consistent with the National Safety and Quality Health Care Service Standards. (Mandatory for all clinical positions.)
Proven ability to develop and maintain a high level of credibility in Aboriginal communities in South Australia.
Demonstrated ability to work under broad direction, both independently and within a team, exercise initiative and judgement in resolving complex and sensitive issues whilst remaining focused on agreed objectives that may have competing priorities.
