Commercial Systems Australia is an established Australian outdoor furniture manufacturing business based in Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs. We manufacture and supply quality outdoor furniture and are seeking an experienced and reliable Finance Officer to join our team.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys being involved across the day-to-day financial operations of a business and takes pride in accuracy, organisation and meeting deadlines.
About the Role
Reporting to the business owner, the Finance Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and payroll functions of the business.
The role will have responsibility for accounts receivable, accounts payable, banking, payroll, superannuation and statutory reporting, as well as month-end financial preparation.
This is an on-site position and requires someone who is comfortable working closely with management, employees, suppliers and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable / Debtors
Manage the day-to-day accounts receivable function
Monitor outstanding debts and follow up overdue accounts
Assist with credit control and customer account queries
Maintain accurate debtor records
Accounts Payable / Creditors
Process supplier invoices and credit notes
Match invoices to purchase orders and supporting documentation
Prepare supplier payments
Reconcile supplier statements
Maintain accurate creditor records
Respond to supplier queries
Ensure invoices are correctly coded and approved
Banking
Complete daily banking
Process and reconcile bank transactions
Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards
Monitor incoming and outgoing payments
Maintain accurate cash and banking records
Payroll
Process weekly payroll
Process weekly superannuation obligations
Ensure payroll is accurate and processed within required deadlines
Maintain employee payroll records
Respond to employee payroll queries
Assist with payroll-related reporting and reconciliations
Monthly payroll tax
Statutory Obligations
Prepare and lodge monthly payroll tax
Manage WorkCover administration and reporting
Prepare and assist with quarterly BAS
Monthly payroll tax preparation and payment
Ensure payroll and accounting records support statutory reporting requirements
Maintain compliance with relevant Australian taxation and payroll obligations
Month-End
Assist with month-end financial preparation
Prepare account reconciliations
Complete bank, debtor and creditor reconciliations
Review outstanding transactions and balances
Prepare supporting schedules for management accounts
Assist the Accountant with month-end reporting and analysis
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
Experienced in a similar Finance Officer, Accounts Officer or Senior Bookkeeper role
Confident managing both accounts payable and accounts receivable
Experienced in Australian payroll
Experienced with weekly payroll and superannuation
Familiar with BAS, payroll tax and WorkCover
Highly organised and able to manage deadlines
Accurate and detail-oriented
Reliable and able to work independently
Comfortable communicating with customers, suppliers and employees
Discreet and trustworthy when handling confidential financial and payroll information
Practical and hands-on, with a willingness to assist wherever required
Essential Experience
Previous experience in an Australian finance/accounts role
Accounts payable and accounts receivable
Bank reconciliations and daily banking
Payroll processing
Superannuation
BAS preparation
Payroll tax
WorkCover administration
Month-end accounting preparation
Strong Excel skills
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Experience in a manufacturing environment would be highly regarded.
