St Margaret's Berwick Grammar
About the role
Are you a qualified builder or experienced tradesperson looking for something a little different?
St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar is seeking a hands-on and versatile Building & Property Maintenance Technician to join our Property and Facilities team, with the opportunity to also support students and teaching staff within our Product Design & Technology (PDT) program.
This is an ideal opportunity for a qualified builder, carpenter or experienced tradesperson who enjoys working with young people and would like to use their Product skills in an educational environment. It may particularly suit someone with previous TAFE, trade training, apprenticeship supervision or vocational education experience who is looking for a change from full-time construction.
About the Role
This is a varied, Product role combining general property and grounds maintenance with the opportunity to contribute to hands-on student learning.
Working across our School campuses, you will assist with the ongoing maintenance and improvement of School buildings, facilities and grounds, while also supporting the safe and effective operation of our Product Design & Technology spaces.
Depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate, the role may include opportunities to work alongside teachers and students on Product projects, building skills and trade-based learning.
Key Responsibilities
Property & Maintenance
Undertake general building, carpentry and property maintenance across the School.
Complete minor repairs, installations and improvement works.
Assist with preventative maintenance and the upkeep of School buildings and facilities.
Support grounds and general site maintenance as required.
Identify maintenance issues and assist with coordinating contractors and specialist trades.
Ensure all works are completed safely and to a high standard.
Product Design & Technology
Support the preparation and operation of PDT workshops and Product learning spaces.
Assist students and teachers with tools, materials, machinery and Product projects.
Demonstrate safe and effective use of hand and power tools.
Assist with the maintenance of workshop machinery and equipment.
Share Product trade knowledge and skills with students in an engaging and supportive way.
Contribute to creating authentic, hands-on learning experiences for students.
About You
We are looking for someone who is Product, approachable and enjoys working as part of a school community.
Ideally, you will have:
A recognised building, carpentry or relevant trade qualification.
Strong Product building and maintenance skills.
Broad experience across property maintenance and minor construction works.
A strong commitment to workplace and workshop safety.
The ability to relate positively to children and young people.
An interest in sharing your trade knowledge and skills with students.
Good communication and organisational skills.
The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with staff.
Experience in TAFE, vocational education, apprentice supervision, trade training, school technology workshops or mentoring young people would be highly regarded.
Previous school experience is not essential.
A Different Kind of Trade Role
For the right person, this role provides an opportunity to step away from the demands of a traditional construction environment while continuing to use your trade skills every day.
You’ll work across a diverse School environment, tackle a wide range of Product projects and have the opportunity to pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm for building and making to the next generation.
The exact balance between property maintenance and Product Design & Technology support may be tailored to the experience and interests of the successful candidate.
A current Working with Children Check and satisfactory pre-employment screening will be required.
If you’re a builder, carpenter, tradesperson or former trade educator looking for a role where your Product skills can make a genuine difference, we’d love to hear from you.
