Senior Project Engineer, Lighting Design

 About The Role

Own the customer relationship and the technical solution across Lighting Design projects. You will lead design safety, schedule, quality, and team performance — and help grow the next generation of Project Engineers.

As a Senior Project Engineer in Lighting Design, you take full ownership of assigned projects from design through handover. You manage the client’s technical solution, all project stakeholders, approvals, and design submissions to network authorities. You also provide enhanced oversight of the team’s performance, coach and mentor Project Engineers, and drive continuous improvement in design quality, automation, and process.

You will also interface with other Powerplant teams to deliver projects, such as our network design, customer-initiated projects and project management teams.

 Key Responsibilities

• Undertake project engineering for standard and complex Lighting Design projects.

• Assume complete ownership of the client’s technical solution and manage all approvals.

• Follow and participate in the QA review process, including senior reviews.

• Identify and resolve design, technical, and constructability risks.

• Drive handover of approved designs to Project Managers and support during construction.

• Identify and lead process improvements — including AI, automation, AutoCAD LISP routines, and internal procedures.

• Provide clear, consistent communication to clients and stakeholders on requirements, timelines, risks, and issues.

• Support Project Engineers with complex or sensitive stakeholders and projects.

• Complete SiD audits, design risk assessments, and field works practice audits.

• Ensure financial performance of project delivery for assigned projects.

• Assist in building a highly motivated, enjoyable, and passionate team environment including coaching, training and upskilling of team members.

Essential Requirements:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering.

• Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD, Microstation, and AGI32.

• Advanced knowledge of AS1158 series, TCG 006, AS3000, and AS4282.

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in VESI electrical designs across AusNet, Powercor, United Energy, and Jemena.

• Experience with Tunnel Lighting and Tulip software

• Powercor and Jemena “Designer” and “Reviewer” accreditation.

• Registration in the National Engineering Register and the Illuminating Engineering Society

• RPEV, or on track to achieve RPEV within 5 months of appointment.

• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines

• Strong attention to detail and quality assurance focus
