About the role

NQ Estimating & Civil Services is seeking a Water Truck Operator to join our team in Cairns, QLD. This is a casual position offering flexibility for the right candidate. As a Water Truck Operator, you will play a vital role in supporting our construction and civil services operations by safely and efficiently operating water trucks to manage dust suppression, site preparation, and other essential project requirements. Your expertise will directly contribute to maintaining safe, compliant work environments across our project sites.

Key responsibilities

• Operate water trucks safely and efficiently on construction and civil works sites, adhering to all relevant safety regulations and company procedures

• Perform pre-operation and post-operation inspections of water trucks to ensure mechanical fitness and safe working condition

• Manage water distribution for dust suppression, site preparation, and other project-specific requirements

• Maintain accurate records of water truck usage, fuel consumption, and maintenance requirements

• Respond promptly to site supervisor requests and adjust operations based on project needs

• Communicate effectively with site teams to ensure coordinated and safe operations

• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the water truck and associated equipment

• Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to management immediately

What we're looking for

• Valid Heavy Vehicle Licence (HVL) or equivalent qualification appropriate for operating water trucks

• Proven experience operating water trucks in construction or civil services environments

• Demonstrated knowledge of truck operation, maintenance, and site safety procedures

• Ability to conduct vehicle pre-operation inspections and identify mechanical issues

• Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively alongside site supervisors and construction teams

• Reliability and commitment to punctuality, particularly important for casual work arrangements

• Physical fitness and ability to perform duties in various weather conditions

• Current First Aid certification (desirable)

• Experience with different water management systems and dust control techniques (desirable)
