Are you ready to support contract assurance and inspections across Brisbane’s public spaces?

We are looking for a safety focused and detail minded team member who can undertake field-based inspections, capture accurate evidence and support safe, compliant and reliable contract outcomes.

Public Space Operations, through its Contracts Management function, delivers a wide range of contract-based services across the city, supporting clean, safe and well-maintained public spaces.

The Role:

As a Contracts Inspection Officer, you will conduct field-based inspections and audit checks at contractor service sites to confirm compliance with contract requirements, safety expectations and agreed standards.

You will capture accurate, auditable evidence and maintain clear inspection records that support assurance reporting, corrective actions and continuous improvement.

You will communicate professionally with contractors and internal stakeholders to gather factual information, and escalate non-compliance, defects and risks through agreed pathways for action and close out.

In this role, you will:

• Conduct scheduled and reactive inspections and audit checks at contractor service sites to verify delivery against contract requirements and agreed inspection methods.
• Capture accurate inspection records, including measurements, observations, supporting notes and approved evidence, in line with Council record keeping requirements.
• Identify non-compliance, defects, hazards and emerging risks, record findings clearly and escalate issues promptly through agreed pathways.
• Support contractor safety assurance by completing defined safety focused checks during inspections and escalating material safety concerns immediately.
• Maintain an inspection diary and follow assigned inspection schedules, ensuring visits, evidence and reporting are completed within agreed timeframes.
• Liaise professionally with contractors on site to confirm access, clarify scope and gather factual information.
• Provide factual inspection outcomes and evidence to support assurance reporting, rectification follow up and service improvement.
• Use Council equipment, systems and tools responsibly and in line with WHS requirements, Council standards and approved procedures.
• Where relevant to the contract portfolio, verify compliance with specialist service requirements such as chemical application practices, equipment use and safety controls.
• Contribute practical feedback to improve inspection checklists, templates and reporting quality.

To be successful, you will bring:

• Demonstrated ability to work safely and professionally in field environments, follow instructions and procedures, and escalate hazards or concerns promptly.
• Strong organisation and time management skills, including the ability to work autonomously in the field, follow inspection schedules and complete required records within timeframes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear factual inspection notes, record actions and provide accurate updates.
• Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to capture accurate information for records, including observations, measurements and supporting notes.
• Competent numeracy skills suitable for inspections, including measuring distances, calculating areas and recording results accurately.
• Competence using everyday digital tools to record information, including mobile devices, spreadsheets and document tools, with a focus on data accuracy and completeness.
• Ability to work collaboratively with team members, contractors and internal stakeholders, responding to requests for information in a timely way.

While not mandatory, experience supporting contractor compliance, safety inspections, evidence collation, action tracking, or inspections across services such as cleaning, security, hygiene, landscape, litter or grass cutting will also be highly regarded.
