• Parental leave contract for 10.5 Months
• Base salary $117K - $144K (paid on a pro rata basis)

The Role

The ABC is looking for a Digital Social Lead to deliver high-impact original stories, breaking News and high-quality features across digital and social platforms.

The Job

• Lead breaking news and daily digital/social content for national audiences.
• Provide editorial leadership in the Canberra Parliament House Bureau.
• Ensure content meets ABC standards, legal requirements, and community expectations.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of digital and social producers.
• Use audience data and analytics to guide editorial and distribution decisions.
• Resolve editorial, legal, technical, and production issues quickly.
• Work with bureau leadership on content strategy aligned to ABC News.
• Produce stories that reflect Australia’s diversity.
• Engage outer-suburban communities to find relevant stories.

About You

You'll have: 

• Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience.
• Strong digital news production and CMS skills.
• Ability to make quick, sound editorial decisions under pressure.
• Skilled in writing, sub-editing, and crafting engaging headlines.
• Understanding of audience trends, analytics, engagement, and SEO.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and time management skills.
• Knowledge of national affairs, politics, economics, and government.
• Passion for telling diverse Australian stories and building and maintaining broad community contacts.
