About the role
We are currently seeking a Safety Officer to join our team on a temporary full-time basis.
Who we are:
BMI Resource Recovery Services is focused on environmentally conscious recovery of resources from building and construction activities. This minimises waste going into landfill and maximises recycling initiatives while providing a broad range of quality resources for the building, landscaping, and civil construction industries.
About the role:
Based at Acacia Ridge, or New Chum this role supports the ongoing needs of the business and will involve travel between multiple sites as required, including Pinkenba, Redbank, Stapylton and other associated locations.
Working as part of our Safety Team, the Safety Officer will provide support across the Group by delivering practical health, safety and environmental guidance to operational teams in line with company standards and legislative requirements.
The primary purpose of this role is to support our Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) function through the provision of resources, information and advice on workplace health and safety matters. The successful candidate will take a hands-on approach to site inspections, audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Work within a small HSE team to guide the business in the management of health, safety and environmental activities while complying with legislative requirements and company standards
Champion the Group Safety Management System processes
Undertake audits, inspections, and front-line engagements
Contribute to risk assessments, work method statements, project plans and reviews
Contribute to incident investigations and reviews
Develop, implement, and monitor work instructions with operational teams
Assist with development, delivery, and management of training
Facilitate and coordinate relevant safety meetings on site
Identifies continuous improvement opportunities in safety processes
Assist with managing contractors on site from a Safety perspective
Qualifications and Experience:
Certificate IV in OHS/WHS (Diploma desirable)
Demonstrated competency in document generation and associated control systems
Experience in heavy industry with exposure to construction, mobile plant, materials handling, or related high-risk industry
Knowledge of current legislation, standards, and industry requirements
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to relate effectively with workers and managers
Experience or qualifications in training and assessment would be highly desirable but not essential.
