WHO WE ARE

Go Gentle Australia (GGA) is a small team making a big difference to end-of-life care.

In 2026, Go Gentle Australia marks 10 years of making a big difference to end-of-life care. Founded by broadcaster Andrew Denton, we’re the national charity best known for helping secure voluntary assisted dying laws in every Australian state, the ACT and most recently the Northern Territory (implementation in 2028) - giving terminally ill people who are suffering the right to apply for medical assistance to end their life.

Our work is not finished. We advocate for accessible, compassionate and person-centred VAD laws, amplify the voices of dying people and their families, support health professionals providing VAD care, and use evidence to improve end-of-life care across Australia.

THE ROLE

Working within GGA's Policy & Engagement team, this role will support the delivery of high-quality research, policy analysis and stakeholder engagement to help advance our strategic objectives and promote safe, high-quality and sustainable voluntary assisted dying care.

Working closely with the Policy & Engagement Senior Manager and alongside another Policy Officer, you’ll undertake desktop research and analysis, contribute to briefing notes, submissions, policy positions and reports, and monitor political, legislative and end-of-life sector developments. You’ll also help coordinate engagement with health, political and consumer stakeholders - from maintaining stakeholder maps and arranging meetings to preparing team members for external engagement and ensuring actions are followed up.

You’ll also support the planning and delivery of priority policy projects, helping the team stay on track with timelines and deadlines and identifying emerging issues or competing priorities. From time to time, the role may involve supporting meetings, conferences and other activities interstate.

 This is a newly created role to build capacity within the team, but has the ability to be shaped and grown by the right candidate.

key selection criteria

Essential

• Relevant qualification, experience or a proven interest in health, politics or a related field
• Ability to translate complex issues into clear, concise and accurate briefings
• Exceptional written, interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Confident working both independently and in collaboration with colleagues
• Dynamic, flexible and willing to adapt and learn new skills
• Competent in IT programs and troubleshooting including Google Workspace, Zoom, Mailmerge and CRM systems. 
• An Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Commitment to our mission, values and vision

Desirable

• Knowledge of Australian healthcare systems
• Experience working in the not-for-profit or charity sector
• Experience with or knowledge of NationBuilder
