About the role

The Project Officer - Housing reports directly to the relevant stream lead. This position works as part of a team where interdependencies and collaboration with colleagues, QDN members and internal and external stakeholders are critical to the successful delivery of projects, services and activities.

The appointee is accountable for the delivery of work assignments and projects, recognising when matters need to be referred to management for resolution. They will work to ensure the timely achievement of deliverables, within agreed budgets and performance levels. The position may require some travel.

QDN actively works to influence change around key issues of inclusion for people with disability and their communities. This is a hands-on role actively engaging with people with disability and your work will have considerable impact. You can expect to be engaging with our members on issues to inform our policy and the delivery of our project work. QDN’s policy, projects and activities cover a diverse range of areas which includes disability reforms, employment, housing, health, community participation, energy, leadership and disaster preparedness. This role will have a primary focus on QDN’s housing work.

What will you bring to the role?

• Sound knowledge and awareness of disability and key issues that are important in the lives of people with disability including specifically disability housing, disability reforms, policy and legislation.
• High level analytical skills and project management skills.
• Delivery of workshops, engagements, meetings, co-design activities in partnership with people with disability across a broad range of sector stakeholders including people with disability, supporters, industry peaks, non-government providers and Government agencies.
• Demonstrated ability to use and analyse data to develop information, resources, engagement process, and policy positions to influence change.
• High level writing skills: the ability to turn complex information into succinct, easy-to-understand and engaging material; and the knowledge and experience to produce high-quality content.
• The ability to co-ordinate under the direction of your manager, the workflow for QDN’s project deliverables, and exercise appropriate initiative and judgement to solve problems and seek guidance where appropriate.
• Effective engagement skills across a broad range of consumer, community and government stakeholders; with engagement experience in the disability, housing or human services areas that enable you to build relationships and communicate with influence.
• Experience working with Microsoft 365 and other software applications.
• The ability to comply with relevant State and Commonwealth legislation and frameworks including Work Health and Safety requirements, QDN’s processes, NDIS Quality and Safeguards and Queensland Human Rights Act.

What will you do in the role?

1. Undertake effective engagement including co-design with people with disability, families/carers and other key stakeholders to inform QDN’s delivery of work and activities.
2. Undertake research and analysis and provide informed, considered and practical advice on government policy, programs and implementation programs with a key focus on diverse issues impacting people with disability.
3. Produce content for and provide advice on QDN’s disability work, including media statements, briefings, reports, submissions, presentations, newsletters, website content, publications, communication material and other sources of information.
4. Maintain effective working relationships with relevant government, private and not-for-profit organisations, to influence state and national policy and support representation on the position and views of QDN to all relevant internal and external stakeholders in a way that enhances the reputation of the organisation.
5. Support the implementation of QDN’s project workplans, including managing and delivery of projects, government requested co-design and engagement activities.
6. Work under the direction of the work stream lead on the day-to-day functions associated with the relevant project plans or workplans.
7. Support QDN member engagement strategies to inform projects and programs and harvest key themes, such as the design, delivery and evaluation of workshops and events, both in person and virtually.
8. Participate actively in QDN culture of a safe and inclusive work environment.
9. Other duties as directed by your line manager.

Key Job Requirements

Relevant tertiary qualifications (or demonstrated equivalent experience) or relevant experience in the areas of disability, human services and/or policy experience would be highly desirable.
