ASSISTANT HATCHERY MANAGER

Cordina Chicken Farms Pty Ltd is the Australian market leader in the highly competitive 'Value Added' or 'Convenience' chicken sector.
From our purpose-built hatchery in Somersby (NSW), we use industry-leading technology and best-practice animal welfare standards to produce and supply healthy, high-quality chicks for our poultry operations.
We are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Hatchery Manager to join our Somersby hatchery operations. This position reports to the Hatchery Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day management of poultry production activities to ensure optimal hatchery outcomes, biosecurity, bird welfare, quality, and efficiency.
Please note: The role includes a week-on/week-off on-call roster and comes with a fully serviced house. A very competitive salary is on offer for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, monitor, and manage poultry operations to meet production targets
Oversee egg handling, incubation, hatching, grading, vaccination, and chick placement
Maintain accurate production, health, and hatchery records
Supervise and support staff in daily poultry and hatchery activities
Monitor feed, water, and environmental conditions to ensure bird health and welfare
Manage and maintain sheds, hatchery facilities, and farm equipment
Implement and monitor biosecurity, hygiene, and animal welfare programs
Respond to alarms, equipment failures, or livestock needs, including after-hours as required
Ensure compliance with WH&S standards, company policies, and industry regulations
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance poultry production and farm efficiency
What Youβll Bring:
Previous experience in poultry (hatchery experience highly regarded)
Formal qualification in agriculture, animal science, or poultry husbandry (preferred but not essential)
Demonstrated ability to manage poultry health, welfare, and production requirements
Strong problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills
Hands-on approach with the ability to lead and supervise staff
Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and on-call rosters
