The Role
We are seeking a Senior Supervisor/Operations Manager to lead our asphalt and civil crews on various projects across the Sunshine Coast and regional Southeast Queensland. This role is ideal for an experienced professional in a similar current role, or an experienced asphalt leader ready to move into a more senior management role.
This role is the link between the estimating/project planning and the field delivery crews. There is a close interface with the General Manager (Director) and Estimator, ensuring the project brief is handed over with all necessary detail to successfully resource, coordinate and delivery every project.
You'll take ownership of site safety, quality, and productivity. Additional to the day-to-day operations, the role will have exposure to the mechanics of a growing business. The involvement/exposure to the ‘business’ side of the operation will be completely up to the selected candidates desire to learn and up-skill in this space. With these skills, future opportunities will exist as the General Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Ownership of the daily/weekly project delivery planning and resource allocations
Crew communication regarding project planning and deliver
Onsite management of crews ensuring productivity, quality, and safety
Assist Director with the employment of future staff as required
Manage equipment, trucks, and crew to ensure project readiness
Mentor and support team members, fostering a positive work environment
Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies
Monitor and direct paving, compaction, and finishing operations to achieve specification and quality standards
Conduct pre-start briefings, toolbox talks, and ensure all crew are inducted and compliant
Monitor and enforce site safety in accordance with the project SWMS and RFD's safety standards
Communicate with General Manager regularly regarding daily progress, issues, and opportunities
Manage crew performance and address any on-site issues professionally and promptly
Oversee plant and equipment operation, flagging any maintenance or defect concerns
Assist Director with the employment of future staff as required
Ensure work is completed on time, within scope, and to the required standard
Maintain accurate site records including daily diaries, dockets, and timesheets
Organise and coordinate with subcontractors as required
What We're Looking For
Demonstrated experience as an Operations Manager or Supervisor in asphalt or civil contracting
Strong knowledge of civil construction including asphalt laying, compaction techniques, and finished surface quality requirements
Ability to read and interpret job plans and specifications
Current driver's licence (Truck drivers licence advantageous at times)
White Card (Construction Induction)
Solid understanding of workplace health and safety obligations on civil construction sites
Confident, clear communicator who can manage a crew and deal with clients and supervisors professionally
Ability to be a professional leader AND get your hands dirty when required.
Self-motivated with a commitment to quality workmanship and a safe site
Desirable
Computer literate – ability to report and communicate with a tablet/computer.
Previous experience on local government or state road projects
