Dale Christian College is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Digital Technologies & Media Learning Area Coordinator to join our K–12 College in an ongoing role commencing January 2027. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the Deputy Principal (Secondary), Dean of Curriculum & Students (Secondary), other LACs, colleagues and support staff to deliver high-quality Christian education and contribute positively to the academic, pastoral and cultural life of the College.

About This Role:

This is a new position commencing January 2027, combining Secondary teaching with responsibility for establishing and leading the College’s Digital Technologies & Media learning area. The successful applicant will teach across Years 7–12 as appropriate to qualifications, experience and College needs, while providing curriculum and instructional leadership for Digital Technology, Media, STEM, Applied Information Technology (AIT) and Materials Design and Technology (MDT).

The role requires strong knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum in Technologies, particularly Digital Technologies, together with the ability to contribute to Media Arts and digital media learning. Experience with senior secondary courses, pathways or relevant industry practice will be highly regarded where applicable to the College’s developing program.

The role focuses on curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, staff development and student pathways. It is distinct from the College’s operational IT function, although close collaboration with the IT Manager and technical staff will be important in relation to devices, platforms, software, infrastructure requirements and safe educational use.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality, engaging Digital Technologies and Media learning experiences aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and, where applicable, SCSA WACE course requirements.

• Teach students to apply computational thinking, problem-solving and design processes through appropriate areas such as programming, data, digital systems, networks, automation, robotics and digital solutions, according to curriculum and available resources.

• Develop students’ capability to analyse, create and communicate through media, including appropriate digital production processes, visual and audio storytelling, editing, publishing and critical media literacy.

• Embed safe, ethical and responsible digital practice, including privacy, copyright, intellectual property, cybersecurity awareness, digital citizenship, appropriate use of artificial intelligence and consideration of the social impacts of technology.

• Use evidence-informed teaching strategies, explicit instruction, project-based learning and differentiation to meet diverse learning needs and build student agency, creativity and technical capability.

• Assess, record and report on student achievement, providing timely and constructive feedback and using student achievement data to inform teaching, intervention, extension and program improvement.

• Maintain effective classroom and practical-work routines, including appropriate management of devices, specialist equipment, digital files, student accounts, software and production spaces.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff, and participate fully in staff meetings, professional learning, College events, pastoral or Homeroom responsibilities, playground and relief duties, and other reasonable responsibilities associated with the role. 

Learning Area Coordinator Responsibilities – Digital Technologies, Media, STEM, AIT and MDT

• Provide strategic, curriculum and instructional leadership for these key areas and establish a clear direction for the new learning-area structure from 2027.

• Develop and maintain coherent Years 7–12 curriculum pathways, scope and sequence documents, course proposals, assessment schedules, common standards and moderation processes aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and SCSA requirements.

• Lead the review and development of programs that reflect contemporary practice while remaining educationally purposeful, age-appropriate, sustainable and aligned with the College’s Christian ethos.

• Coordinate learning-area meetings, priorities, documentation and communication, and represent Digital Technologies & Media in relevant Secondary curriculum and leadership discussions.

• Support and develop staff through collaborative planning, mentoring, resource sharing, professional learning and clear expectations for curriculum delivery, assessment, feedback and student management.

• Monitor student achievement, participation and pathway data, identify improvement priorities, and develop appropriate strategies for intervention, extension and increased engagement.

• Oversee learning-area budgets, subscriptions, software, licences, devices and specialist equipment in consultation with College Leadership and IT staff, ensuring resources are educationally justified, appropriately maintained and used safely.

• Provide leadership in the planning and the establishment of the new Digital Technologies and Media area, including input into the design of learning spaces, equipment, resources and technology infrastructure, ensuring that this supports contemporary curriculum delivery, safe and innovative teaching practice and the future needs of the college.

• Establish appropriate procedures for the management of digital assets, student work, media consent, privacy, copyright, file storage, equipment usage and production workflows.

• Maintain current knowledge of curriculum developments, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, digital safety and relevant professional or industry trends, evaluating these carefully for appropriate educational application.

• Build relevant external networks and opportunities, including competitions, showcases, industry or tertiary connections and authentic projects, where these support student learning and future pathways.

• Contribute professional advice to College Leadership regarding staffing, timetable structures, facilities, resources, course development and longer-term planning for Digital Technologies & Media.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must:

• Demonstrate a personal faith and commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ, active involvement in a Christian church or faith community, acceptance of the College’s Statement of Faith, and a commitment to supporting the Christian mission and ethos of Dale Christian College.

• Possess recognised and appropriate teaching qualifications suitable for teaching Secondary Digital Technologies and/or Media in a Western Australian school.

• Demonstrate strong knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum in Technologies, with particular expertise in Digital Technologies; capability in Media Arts, digital media production or a closely related area is required for the breadth of this role.

• Demonstrate contemporary practical capability in relevant digital technologies, which may include programming, data, networks, digital systems, robotics, web/app development, multimedia production, video/audio editing or related tools and platforms.

• Demonstrate strong skills in curriculum planning, project-based learning, differentiation, classroom management, assessment, moderation, feedback and the use of student achievement data.

• Demonstrate sound knowledge of digital safety, privacy, copyright, cybersecurity awareness, ethical technology use and responsible management of student digital work and accounts.

• Demonstrate leadership capacity, including strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills; the ability to establish systems and priorities; build staff capability; lead curriculum development; and work collaboratively through change.

• Demonstrate the capacity to develop engaging Years 7–12 pathways, promote participation and achievement, and build links with relevant professional, tertiary, industry or community networks where these enhance student learning.

• Demonstrate the ability to manage learning-area resources and budgets responsibly and work collaboratively with the College’s IT Manager and technical staff.

• The ability to build positive and supportive relationships with Secondary students, staff and families.

• Professional integrity, sound judgement, reflective practice, ongoing professional learning and teaching practice aligned with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

• A willingness to follow College policies, procedures, professional expectations and lawful directions.

• A commitment to maintaining a child-safe, inclusive and healthy workplace and learning environment, exercising appropriate duty of care and supporting student wellbeing.

• Current Teacher Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA), or eligibility to obtain appropriate registration prior to commencement. Limited Registration may be considered where appropriate.

• A current Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance and valid Australian work rights, or willingness/eligibility to obtain these prior to commencement.

*Previous experience in a Learning Area Coordinator, Head of Department or similar curriculum leadership role will be highly regarded, although suitably experienced teachers demonstrating clear leadership capacity are encouraged to apply.
