About the role
About the role
Make a meaningful impact in your community by promoting responsible pet ownership and supporting animal welfare. As an Animal Management Officer, you’ll play a key role in delivering vital services under the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and the City of Melbourne’s Domestic Animal Management Plan.
This role combines high-level customer service with hands-on fieldwork. You’ll manage pet registrations, educate the public on animal-related legislation, and ensure compliance through proactive engagement and enforcement. Your work will include reuniting lost pets with their owners, caring for stray and abandoned animals, and upholding animal welfare standards across the municipality.
Be part of a team that values compassion, professionalism, and community service.
Why join Team Melbourne?
Located on the traditional lands of the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, Melbourne is globally recognised as one of the most liveable, diverse, and dynamic cities.
At the heart of it all is the City of Melbourne – a passionate, purpose-driven organisation where your work truly matters. As part of Team Melbourne, you’ll help deliver what’s most important to the people who live, work, study, visit and invest in our great city.
We’re proud champions of diversity, committed to continuous improvement, and driven by a shared vision for a vibrant and sustainable future.
This is more than just a role – it’s your chance to make a real impact, contribute to something bigger, and shape Melbourne’s future alongside a collaborative and forward-thinking team.
About you
You’re passionate about animal welfare and committed to promoting responsible pet ownership in the community. With a strong understanding of the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and local animal management practices, you bring both knowledge and empathy to your work.
You thrive in a role that blends customer service with field operations. You’re confident engaging with the public, educating pet owners, and ensuring compliance with legislation. Your attention to detail supports accurate pet registration, and your calm, professional approach helps you manage challenging situations with care and integrity.
You’re proactive, reliable, and ready to make a positive impact across the City of Melbourne.
